Kiwi Lane Designs Blog Hop

Good morning friends, and welcome to my first ever Kiwi Lane Designs blog hop.

If you've arrived here from Kristy's blog, then you're on the right track.  If you have no idea what I'm talking about, and want to get in on the fun, then I suggest you maximize your daily does of scrapbooking inspiration and start here, at the Kiwi Lane blog.

As a scrapper who likes to use a lot of bits and pieces, and add a lot of dimension to my layouts I was unsure if Kiwi Lane Designer templates would be for me.  When I received my package of goodies, however, I knew these little gems would be easy to assimilate into my scrapbooking.

I worked with the Tiny Accent package for this hop.

I chose the star template to take centre stage on my layout.  I really wanted to give it a work out and chose to create my own patterned paper by tracing and cutting out the shape all over the bottom half of the page, and backing the holes with co-ordinating patterned papers.

This is what I ended up with.

I love masking, and decided to give you a peek of what it would look like if I used the template to do that too.  I decided to keep my template clean (you'll see why later), so I traced out some shapes on scrap paper, and used them instead.

Here is what the masking looked like after adding the alphabet title.

Once I had everything all together I decided that the stars needed just a tad more definition.  To achieve the look I was after, I used my sewing machine to stitch around each star with dark grey thread.
My completed layout. Featuring our family Poodle Wilson, two of the Tiny Accent shapes, My Mind's Eye papers, and a variety of embellishments from my stash.

Visiting, and commenting on each blog will leave you with loads of inspiration.  These ladies really knocked it out of the park for you this hop.  You may also find some great give aways along the way, and one lucky participant among all the blogs will win a $25 gift certificate to the Kiwi Lane store.  I also have a little something to offer one of my lucky readers today.  You could win yourself your very own Tiny Accessories set.  Simple become my newest follower, and leave a comment here telling me you've done so, and this great little set could be on it's way to you very soon.  In the spirit of "the month of love" I'll even throw in some brand new Chic Tags goodness for you.  The fabulous Love Notes collection boasts some super cute tags for all your Valentine's Day scrapbook needs.
You have until Sunday at 11:59 MST to leave your comments and be entered into the draw here and on the Kiwi Lane Designs blog.  The Kiwi Lane winner will be announced on their blog on Wednesday.  My winner will be announced right here on my blog the same day.  Good luck!
Thanks for hopping with me today.  Your next stop will be Roselyn.

Have a wonderful day! Pin It

Crazy Awesome

Popping in to post a quick share of a layout I had up at Chic Tags earlier this week.

These photos with my buddy Hunter called for some crazy, fun papers, and layout design.  I pulled out my November Scraptastic Kit, some fab Chic Tags, and set to work.
The finished result surprised me with it's lack of white space.

Lots of layers as usual, and a LOT of machine stitching on this one.
Stitching in between the Cameo cuts
Lots of fun with Chic Tags products.  I love that you can add just one or two, or like me more often than not, you can add a whole bunch of them to a layout, and layer to your heart's delight.

Hope you'll head over to have a peek!

These are the tags used on this project.  They are available here in the shop.

Beautiful Babies

A new week, a new sketch up at Let's Get Sketchy.  Fellow DT member Bev Code created a beauty for us to play with this week.  I pulled out all the stops on this one.  It was one of those layouts that just came together quickly once I pulled all the product that I wanted to use, everything just fell into place.
Psalm 127:3-4 "Children are an inheritance from the Lord.  They are a reward from him.  The children born to a man when he is young are like arrow in the hand of a warrior.  Blessed is the man who has filled his quiver with them. "
I used a Pink Paislee mask, some paint, a Pink Paislee: Christy Tomlinson stamp, along with some Tim Holtz distress ink, and well as some cut files from my Silhouette Cameo.

Here is Bev's great sketch

Some close ups:
That honeycomb file is a Daniela Dobson creation.  You can find it here.
Some Amy Tangerine, Echo Park, Studio Calico, Chic Tags, and My Minds Eye
Those heart tickets were made using the Silhouette
I just love this photo of my sweet babies.  I can remember taking it, they had all been pretending to sleep on the couch, and made sure they were just loud enough for me to come and have a peek at what was going on.  Gosh, I think I would have to seriously bribe them to be this close together, all on the same couch for a photo these days.  At least I have the proof for the younger two, that there once was a time in their lives where their big sis actually enjoyed hanging out with them.

I hope you feel inspired to go and create today.  Hop over here to see what the rest of the DT did with the sketch, and to link up your own creation. Pin It

Warm It Up

Today at Use It Tuesday that's exactly what we are challenging you to use.  Using your hoarded stash, we are challenging you to create a project that uses red, and/or yellow, and/or orange.

Here is the layout I created using our little Wilson as inspiration.
Mask is The Crafter's workshop

The Crate Paper Story Teller papers, and embellishments, the red trim, and this gorgeous Evalicious flair badge that I've had forever were my hoarded items used on this layout.

You can see what the rest of the DT did to warm up their projects, and link up your own creation here. You never know, doing so may just get you into our Guest DT role somewhere down the road.

Enjoy your day friends, and thanks so much for stopping by! Pin It

January Sketch Challenge

Happy Monday friends,

Marjolaine provided Scrapping Everyday Miracles with her very first sketch challenge this week.  Here is my take on it.
That little tab at the bottom pulls out to reveal the hidden journaling.
Here is the original sketch
You can see that for the most part I worked with all the elements, but changed things around just a bit.  Rather than a circle I went with a rectangular shape on which to mount my photo.  This silhouette cut was a free one I discovered at Studio Calico provided by Kinsey Wilson.  (You can download the file here).  I was dying to use it so I pulled it out for this one.  I made the original cut on white card stock, and used the fabulous new Heidi Swapp Colorshine in mint green to colour the mask to better compliment the photo I was using.  Isn't that amazing coverage?  You've got to try her mists they are fantastic, and give a rich, intense colour.  Totally different from Mr. Huey's, not better just different.  I then moved the cluster along the edge to the other side, layering little bits and pieces rather than using the large square blocks.  I am in love with the finished result.  The twist on the challenge was to fussy cut a patterned paper.  There may have been a better way to cut the papers to go behind the mask, if so I don't know of it.  This baby took me a good while to cut out and cover.  A lot of Sookwang tape, and glossy accents at work here.

There is a great prize up for grabs this month.  It is not one, but two packages of flair from Paper Loves Glue.  They are super cute.

You can see what the rest of the DT did with the sketch, and link up your own creation here.  And incase you missed it the main challenge is here.  It's a call to scrap a "sad moment" in your life.  The DT had some really touching stories to share along with some great layouts.

Thanks so much for stopping by today.  I hope your week is off to a great start! Pin It

A love for tags

Hooray for Friday!

I participated in a challenge to close out this week.  Cristal over at Scaptastic Kit Club offered up a challenge this month to use 2 tags on a project. If you know anything about me and my preferred style of scrapping, you know that tags manage to find their way onto many of layouts.

This is a photo Isabelle took out in the forest behind our home. That girl can take some pretty great shots if you ask me.  I just had to scrap this beauty.

I added one office supply tag, and one silhouette cut tag.  The office supply tag I played with quite a bit, by adding paint, mist, and masking.  The other I cut out of scrap paper, then offset and placed on a second piece of scrap cardstock.
The heart is cut from AC Pow paper, and the ampersand from vellum, both cuts  are from the Silhouette online store
That die cut paper is from Studio Calico
This inspiration for the title came from Isaiah 60:1 "Arise and shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you."  I think this may be the first layout I've ever completed that doesn't  boast a bit of patterned paper.

Thanks for stopping in today.  I hope you're in a for a fun, and relaxing weekend. Pin It

I {heart} To Tap

In case you missed it, I had this layout up on the Chic Tags blog yesterday.

I've been taking a Competitive Adult Tap class for the past few years now, and decided to create a layout in celebration of that accomplishment.  I didn't grow up dancing as just about everyone else in my class did.  I took it up as a hobby after watching the beginner class practice a few times.  They looked like they were having so much fun, I just had to give it a try.  Needless to say I loved it, and was hooked after the very first class.  Here I am 4 years later, having learned so much, getting a pretty good work out, and having a blast with the group of ladies who make up the class.  Competing is a blast, apparently people love to see us 'old ladies' strut out stuff on stage.
I enjoyed using my November kit from Scraptastic Kit Club, my silhouette, paints, mask, and mists on this one.

I'll be back tomorrow with a new layout I created for this challenge over at Scraptastic Book Club. Pin It
