She's Sixteen

Have you played along with the Paper Issues Sketchy Saturday sketch yet?

I used the remnants of my Simple Stories I Am collection to document Isabelle's 16th birthday celebration with a few of her friends.

The girls had a blast.  We rented a limo for them to be chauffeured downtown to a fantastic new restaurant called Across The Board where you can have dinner and enjoy one or more of their 1500 board games with your group over the course of a 3 hour table booking.  They came back here later for cake and snacks, hot tubbing, giggles, and chit chat.  I loved that it was more of a grown up birthday party.
This collection comes with so many embellishments that it was easy to layer to my hearts content.

Here is the sketch created by the talented Amy Coose.

For a chance to a Paper Issues gift certificate get over to the Paper Issues Friends and Fans Facebook page and link up your take on the sketch in the January Album.

Fan-atics

For me, the only good thing about Summer coming to an end is the start up of hockey season.  Cheering on our Winnipeg Jets is a favourite pastime of mine and Darwin's. Whether it's here, on tv at home or downtown at the arena it's the highlight of our day.  I love that it's something we love doing together.

The latest issue at Paper Issues Fan-atics encouraged me to pull out one of our photos from the last Playoff game and get scrapping.

How awesome are those puffy letters?  They are from a Dear Lizzy collection, but they go so perfectly with this bright bold Amy Tangerine collection.

I just had to pair that fun Jillibean Soup File card with the design, plus the colours matches so nicely.

I used American Crafts This to That 3D adhesive pieces to pop my photo off the page.

My design is based off of the October Sketch.

You can link up your take on the sketch here, and you link up to the current issue right here on the Paper Issues Blog.

Life has really changed a lot for me around here, as is evident by my blog.  It's not that I've had less to share, it's that there's been less time and energy to get it onto paper.  My days are full, and usually stressful, and leave me feeling pretty exhausted by the time I finally have some me time in the evening.  I have much to be thankful for, don't get me wrong, it's just a different season for me, and one that I am still trying to find my way in.
It's been so long since I've scrapped, that this felt really good to get on paper.  I have a couple more layouts that I managed to put together this past week.  I will share those soon, I promise.

There is always a lot going on over at the Paper Issues Friends and Fans Facebook page. Multiple challenges a month, pre-sale codes to shop at a discounted rate, and prizes up for grabs throughout the month.  If you haven't done so yet, I encourage you to hop over and become a member today.

As always if you're more in the mood for shopping than scrapping then don't forget to use code: SHERRI at the Paper Issues store checkout to save yourself 20% off everything in your cart.

I sure appreciate you popping in, and thank you for sticking with me through this new chapter. Pin It

Good Times September Sketch

We are showcasing layout created with the September sketch over on the Paper Issues blog today.  This is my take on it.
I used Amy Tangerine's Rise and Shine collection.  It's bright and fun just like the photo of these two monkeys.

Here is the original sketch based off a layout by the talented Lisa Dickinson for Elle's Studio.
Hop over to the blog for more inspiration using this sketch.  And link here up for your chance to win.

Thanks for popping in friends!

Kawaii Crepe (Scraptastic Sketch)

It's time for another sketch over at Scraptastic.  I decided to modify the sketch to an 8.5x11 format just to change things up a bit.
It was so nice of mom to come into the city to attend Isabelle's Grade 9 graduation ceremony with me, as Darwin was out of town.  After the ceremony we asked her where she wanted to go for lunch.  Thankfully for mom and I she chose one of her favourite places, which wa also a place we had not yet been.  Kawaii crepe is delicious with a variety of crepe fillings to choose from.  Whether sweet or savory they all taste as delicious as they look.  We had 3 different fillings between the three of us: cookies & cream with strawberries, chicken caesar salad, and pulled pork.  It's a place I'll now need to take Darwin, so he can experience the deliciousness for himself.

I loved this card from the July Either Way Kit.  I knew when I saw the sketch, that this was the way I wanted to use it.  And how great is that ripped paper stamp?

A little more stamping and lots of buttons, and enamel dots to finish off the page.  Not too much, but not too simple, a great sketch to work with.
We'd love to see your take on Susan's sketch.  If you play along please come over to the blog and link up here for your chance at a Scraptastic gift card.

Thanks so much for stopping by today friends!

Creative Scrappers - Birthday Bash

Welcome to the Creative Scrappers Blog Hop!

Here are the different ways you can play along –
1. Like Creative Scrappers on Facebook
2. Comment on our blog or on Facebook page
3. Help spread the news

Here is the sketch I chose to work with, created by Jenny Evans.
I just love Jenny's sketches, and knew I had a set of photos from a recent "kiddie" photo shoot that I could use.  I also loved that, as much as the design was already within my comfort zone there were a few elements that I wouldn't normally be drawn to in my own designing, like the triangles down down the page, in addition to the chevrons going across the page, I would have thought to put both on the same page.
Here is what I came up with:
Théa made the sweetest little Olaf on the last nice warm-weather winter day we had.  I love that she even got his mouth in the form of him singing.  He looked so cute and inviting in the middle of our cul-de-sac.
I created the snowflake frame using my Silhouette
I've been hoarding that pink chevron flair button for just over a year now.
Hidden journaling once again, I'm pretty predictable that way, I just love to tell the story though, and the design doesn't always allow for it to be out in the open, it's what happens when you like embellishments too much, lol.
There is so much inspiration waiting for you along with way, with 11 more brand new layouts just for the party.  Here is the blog hop order:
Sherri Funk <--- You are here

Beauty Wandering

I played along with Susan's Sketch again this month for Scraptastic Kit Club.  I really do enjoy her sketches, and this month was especially fun because I got to work with a landscape 4x6 photo, that is rare for me.
The sketch was perfect as I had finally stopped and taken a photo of this old abandoned barn that we pass every time we go out to mom & dad's in Niverville.  It's so pretty, and always calms me to look at.

I added one of the stamps in the Stamp Add On set to the center of my start.
I just love all the bits and pieces from the Fancy Pants As You Wish Collection.  That glob was just calling for me to add a flair piece I've been hoarding from {aflairforbuttons}.  Lots of handstitching on this one too.  I don't think I'll ever tire of that, I find it so relaxing to do while watching Netflix.

Here is the original sketch.
Did you know that playing along with our monthly challenges will earn you a gift certificate to the Scraptastic shop?  Jessica has so many great kits still in stock, as well she also has packages of tags, and wood veneer, and other goodies that she sells separately for those who want to add to their kits or simply pick up some additional embellishments to use on their projects.  They are especially great for adding to your Project Life style scrapping, or Moments In Between as I call it.

Creative Scrappers Reveal #266

Wilson has been getting a lot of face time in my posts lately.  Here he is, again in my take on Creative Scrappers Sketch #266.

Here is Jenny's sketch.

You can see that I flipped the sketch and added my own touch to it just a little.  I loved the arrows she incorporated.  I used some Studio Calico veneer, and added a little coating of Perfect Pearls to shine them up a little and help them blend in with the background paper just a little bit better.

That transparency is from the Crate Paper Love Notes overlays pack, and I cut out and stitched circles of coordinating paper.  Some of my circles are peeking through behind holes I've cut into the cardstock, and some are raised with 3D adhesive, I stitched around all of them to give them a little more dimension.  Since the design didn't have a dedicated spot for journaling, I've added it to the largest circle grouping simply outlining the overlay with it.  Journaling reads "so cute the way he plays with his stuffie."

Once again, our sponsor is none other than my favourite kit club.  I should note that I used their February kit and Add On kit to complete this layout too.
Complete as many takes as you like on either this sketch or sketch 265 (revealed here), and link them up using the inlinkz tool on the Creative Scrappers site, and you're automatically entered to win.

Creative Scrappers Reveal #265

This week you're in for a real treat, as Kristine created a sketch that could easily be used for either a pocket page layout, or a regular scrapbook layout.

Here is my take I went with the pocket page style to add to my Memories In Between album.
February 23 - March 1st left side
And here is what Kristine's sketch looked like.
You can see there were several elements that I was able to incorporate into my page despite there difference in pocket sizes.  And here is what I did with the right side of the page.

Here is the spread as it looks in my album.

This is a super fun reveal, because of the diversity of the sketch, I can't wait for you to pop over to the Creative Scrappers blog to have a peek at all the different interpretations.  I certainly hope you'll find the time to join us this month.  Our sponsor is none other than my favourite kit club

Cousins

Happy Sunday friends!

Welcome to another Creative Scrappers reveal.   I used this opportunity to scrap a photo I took at Thanksgiving of the older cousins.  I can still remember when each of them were born, when they all use to call Isabelle, Baby Belle, when they would come to visit, and Ahria would ask me to paint her "pingers and toes".
How time flies.  Now 2 of them have graduated, one of them is a master woodworker (well in my opinion anyway), and my Baby Belle is heading to High School next year.

I used the Scraptastic December kit filled with the most luscious colours, and a flair button from {Aflairforbuttons} Etsy shop.

I stayed pretty true to Jenny's awesome sketch, just added a few layered bits and pieces to the edges.

Please hop over to the Creative Scrappers blog to see the rest of the DT takes on the sketch, and link up your own for a chance at a prize from Chic Tags this month.  You have until March 31 to work with either sketches #263 or 264.  You can enter as many times as you'd like using one or both of these sketches, as long as they are new creations for the challenge.  Link up, and you just never know, you may find your work our featured layout next Wednesday on the Creative Scrappers Blog. Winter Love - Creative Scrappers Reveal

March 2nd, how did that happen?  It seems we've been buried under the cold hard spell of winter for so long here that we didn't even notice February fly right by.  How I wish Spring was just around the corner, but alas we still have several hundred feet of snow (well okay maybe not several hundred, but we have A LOT, let's just leave it at that), and super cold, as in hovering around forty below temperatures here to contend with for the next several weeks.  Cue: Annie's "The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow" here.

In other news, it's a new month, which not only means a new sketch, but a new sponsor for Creative Scrappers.  Here is my take on the sketch.

This was my first time using this size and this format photo.  It took me a bit to figure out how exactly I wanted to use the sketch.  I knew this was the photo I wanted to use, but was struggling with the design, until I flipped it.  Once I put all the strips on the top everything felt better to me, and I was better able to add embellishments.  I used scraps of October Afternoon papers, and one piece of My Mind's Eye paper, along with some {aflairforbuttons} flair and a Silhouette store cut file to create my title.

These goofy girls make scrapping fun.  This photo was from Superbowl Sunday.  The weather was milder than it had been in a long time, perfect for playing outside.  The snow is piled up so high it reaches the top of our six foot fence.

The girls were having so much fun taking turns sliding down it.  That is until they got the idea to scooch themselves along the top of the fence, all the way along to the street side of the house where they then, monkeyed themselves down and along the iron fence.
How perfect is the Hashtag Winter Flair set for this layout?  The cut file was created using a black sketch pen (my new love - watch for a tutorial to come)

I used my EK Success Label maker to create my journaling strips.

Another fun piece of flair from the Hashtag Winter set.

Here is Kristine's sketch
I thought it would be kind of neat to mix some ribbon strips in with my paper strips.  Love the texture that it ended up adding to the layout.

You can see the rest of the amazing layouts on the Creative Scrappers blog.  Our sponsor this month is one that's very near and dear to my heart... Chic Tags will be offering up a $35 prize pack to the lucky winner.  So what are you waiting for?  Get to work on this sketch this week, and check back to the CS blog next week for sketch #264, and link up then too.  And don't forget to check back throughout the week, you just never know if your work will be our feature.

Thanks for stopping by today friends, enjoy your day!

A Creative Scrappers reveal & a freebie

This week's sketch is one that I know I want to use again.  I loved it, and know I would never have come up with the idea on my own.  I've said it before, and I'll say it again Jenny is a sketch queen!  Between her and Kristine, I've created layouts that would otherwise have gone un-scrapped. I am so thankful to both of them for the chance to work with sketches that, at times take me out of my comfort zone.
(please excuse the poor lighting, without the right equipment getting a great photo of a white background can be tricky this time of year here in Manitoba)
I used BasicGrey's RSVP collection, and several pieces of the February Paper Issues Swag Bag to complete this layout.  The Swag Bag is a monthly embellishment bag that Cassie puts together filled with fun little, currently hot & trendy bits and pieces to add to all of your crafting projects. It's only $10, even less if you use my code: SHERRI.  Speaking of the Paper Issues shop, have you seen all the great new goodies Cassis has loaded into it?  All the 2014 CHA goodness is starting to arrive.  You can use my code to save 20% off everything you order. Check it out for yourself here.
I just love the Maya Road love paper clip.

How cute is that mini bingo card?
Here is Jenny's fabulous sketch.
I loved the background so much that I created a cut file to go along with it. If you have a Silhouette Cameo, and would like to use my cut file also you can download it here.  I hope you'll enjoy it.

Remember, if you play along with us this month you will earn yourself a chance to win a kit from Paper Camilla Kits.  You have until Feb 28th to link up a new creation using either one of the February CS Sketches.  You may link up as many times as you like, as long as long as each project is a new creation.

Now hop on over to the Creative Scrappers site to see the rest of the DT creations.

Happy Sunday friends!

Creative Scrapper Reveal

Another reveal to share with you on this lovely Sunday.
This week I used the Fancy Pants Designs Be Loved Collection. The papers were perfect for my photos of the girls "Looming" their hearts out over the winter break.
The journaling reads "Christmas toy of the season: Best $20 I've ever spent.  These two spent hours and hours combining colourful elastics to create cute bracelets.  It was so nice to see them enjoying creating together.  The gift was actually Eden's, but we got her lots and lots for elastics so she would have an easy time sharing.  Théa has since informed us that she would like "her own" Rainbow Loom for her upcoming birthday in March.
Used some Dear Lizzy puffy stickers here with some pop dots for dimension.
How adorable is this cluster?  That xo Fancy Pants tag, the giant wood veneer star (from the December Chic Tags kit, and that sweet button from A Flair For Buttons.  I love embellishments that so easily combine with pretty much any scrappy style.

And here is Kristine's great sketch
Play along with us this month for your chance to win a kit from Paper Camilla Kits.  You have until Feb 28th to link up a new creation using either one of the February CS Sketches.  You may link up as many times as you like, as long as long as each project is a new creation.
Now hop on over to the Creative Scrappers site to see the rest of the DT creations.

Thanks for stopping in today friends.  I wish you a happy Super Bowl Sunday :)
