Happenings

This weekend was a busy one.  I've been solo parenting since Thursday, and will continue to do so until next this coming Thursday.  It's not so bad really, the girls and I usually develop our own rhythm when hubby is away, and it usually works pretty well.  These two people have been a huge help to me, however.  I am so grateful to have such wonderful in-laws in my life.  They love and care for both me and my girls as if we have always been a part of their lives.  They pray for us everyday, and are quick to feed us, and lend a hand whenever the opportunity arises.

Monday we celebrated Théa and Eden's graduation from Music For Young Children, aka MYC.  It's been 5 years of hard work, homework, and hour upon hour of practice.  It all paid off on Monday when they received their trophies, and Moonbeems III certificates.  Their teacher has been a real source of support and inspiration for all of our girls over the past 8 years.  We'll still see her for a couple of weeks as she prepares the girls for their Grade 1 piano exams, but she will surly be missed once it's all over.

This week we've been back and forth to the Manitoba Dance Festival for the younger two.  So far Théa has competed twice.  Monday was for a Ballet Trio, for which they won gold.  Yesterday she, and her two buddies competed with a group of 11, 12, and 13 year old kids, they did great, and also won a gold for their hard work.  Tomorrow we'll be at the Festival all day long, as both Théa, and Eden compete in two Jazz dances each.  They look so darn cute in their costumes.  It's a good thing I'm not an adjudicator, as I would totally dole out awards based on cuteness, hee hee.  Check out these costumes for their duet and trio I don't yet have one of their group performance.

They will be dancing to Surfin' Safari by The Beachboys

The older girls are dancing to Rockin' Robin.  Their cute little bums are completely covered in red feathers :)  (Don't worry about that pink thing, she's holding her other costume.  In my tunnel vision I didn't even notice it in the shot)
That's it for me, for now.  I did do some scrapping on the weekend, I'll share those layouts with you soon.

Here's to a safe and healthy week!

Our last MYC composition recital

For the past eight years our girls have been part of this wonderful music program.  It's amazing how much they learn in one lesson, never mind an entire school year.  One of the requirements they have right from year one is to compose their own individual tune from scratch.  It's been so great to watch them evolve from year one to now.  We spent a couple of hours on Sunday afternoon in a High School Music room being entertained by several students as they joyfully played their pieces for us as, and several other proud parents and family members.  Eden's tune was called What Should I Do?  The name was very appropriate, given that it sounded somewhat disjointed, more like three tunes rolled into one *giggle*.   The teacher had scanned in each student's composition, then added a suitable photo for each one to be displayed by power point on the screen for all of us to see and read along with, while the student played.  Last week at class she confessed to Eden that she was having a hard time coming up with a photo to match the title of her composition.  Sunday as her name was called to take the stage for her turn, was the first chance Eden had to see what photo her teacher ended up choosing.  She thought the huge puzzled expression emoticon was just hilarious.  I wish I had had a video camera with me, and not just a still, so I could have captured her reaction and cute little giggle as she saw her composition on the screen.  She was so amused by it that she couldn't stop looking at it while walking toward the stage, resulting in her taking twice as long to take the stage than any other student.  The whole scene was quite sweet actually.  Oh, and in case you were wondering she did a fab job playing her piece.  We were very proud of her.  Théa's piece was called I'm Singing In The Rain, (and no she hasn't seen the movie) it was a fast paced little number with a very 'grandioso' ending.  She too did wonderfully.  We are so thankful for the wonderful beginning Music For Young Children has given each of our girls.

p.s On the scrappy front: if you love flowers as much as I do you should check out the amazing giveaway my friend Leah is hosting on her blog.  If you leave a comment please tell her I sent you :)
