Happy Monday

Welcome to a brand new week friends.

Not sure what the weather is like in your corner of the world, but I am so ready for the snow to be gone and the lazy days of Summer to be upon us once again.

Reading on the deck, with the sun beaming down on me, and a drink in hand is one of my absolute favourite things to do in the summer.
I have this layout up on the Chic Tags blog today.  I would love if you'd pop over to have a peek.

Here's another one I had up recently on the Cre8tive Cre8tions blog recently, thought I'd share it with you all too.
Let loose with the stamping, masking, and paint.  Love the end result.  You are definitely going to be seeing more of this on my pages.

Lastly I, I have this layout up on the Cre8tive Cre8tions blog today.

If you're up for a little bit of a hop I'd love to see you over there too.  The designers are amazing, so much talent over there working with Andrea's fabulous flair, papers, and stamps.

It's a busy week around here, one that will end in an 11 year old's birthday party and a road trip to Calgary.  Lots to do in the meantime to prepare for both.  Hope your week is off to a great start.

Happy V-Day to My Guy

I know Valentine's Day is still a big day for so many couples, but here in the Funk household, we do things just a little different.  D and I started celebrating the holiday with the girls a few years ago.  Nothing too fancy, sometimes flowers, sometimes a date, but more times than not dinner at home with dessert, pop out of champagne glasses, and sweet love notes at each spot.

I thought I'd change it up just a bit this year and create a little something for hubby.  Not sure if he'll appreciate it as much as I, but I'm hoping he realizes the thought and love that went into it, and know how happy he's made me with this little life we've built together.

One of the teachers at the LSS where I work found this little envelope mini album online somewhere, and I just had to make my own version, smaller, with more detail.  Here is what awaits the best guy I know.

Mostly Chic Tags, and Cre8tive Cre8tions product used with random bits from my stash.
This makes me happy to look at!  Our life together is not perfect, and sometimes it's far from it. But at the end of the day, we know that we both want to stay true to the promise we made before God, our family, and our friends to love and honour one another until death do us part.  All this in between stuff, kids, work, chores, getaways...it all works together to give us a sweet little life.  Blessed we are.

Happy Valentine's Day friends!

All About Me

Happy Monday friends,

I have some Let's Get Sketchy Inspiration for you today.

Isabelle and Eden headed out one afternoon last month to snap some photos together.  Just ask me how much that filled my mamma's heart.  They both managed to take some really great shots of one another.
“It is His joy that remains in us that makes our joy full.” ~ A. B. Simpson

Tabitha's sketch
I had fun using my November Scraptastic Kit, a TCW mask and some paint on this one.

I love the way these photos showcase Belle's crazy, fun personality perfectly.

Hop over here to see what the rest of the DT did with Tabitha's sketch, and to link up your own take on it.  I hope you're feeling inspired to create something beautiful today. Pin It

Home Is Where The Heart Is

Happy Monday friends,

Today is a day off for my kiddos, have I mentioned before how much I love to sleep in?  One of my favourite things to do on earth.  It was a lovely weekend here, a little work, a little dance, a sleepover, a scrappy date, church, and of course the Superbowl.  Good times.

This morning, I have the February challenge at Scrapping Everyday Miracles to share with you.  It's all about where you feel most at home this month.  That could mean different things to different people depending on your circumstance.  For me it truly is wherever I know my hubby and kids will be.  That's home.  If they all chose to live in the Arctic circle, I would have to find a way to make it work, because it just wouldn't be home anywhere else if they weren't with me.  Of course there are times where I love them all being away so I can have some peace and quiet, but what makes that peace and quiet so sweet is the knowledge that soon enough everyone will be back bringing with them all the noises big and small that make them who they are, and in turn make me who I am.

Here is the layout I created for the challenge.  The twist is to add journaling on a tag.

All sorts of bits and pieces to this one, mostly My Mind's Eye, and Chic Tags product
A little hard to see, but I spread some gesso and blue paint across behind everything.

I wanted the photo to take centre stage, so I literally centred it, then placed "love" themed embellies all around.

Journaling on the hidden tag is a quote I saw somewhere on-line (Pinterest perhaps)
"We may not have it all together, but together we have it all"
Hope you feel inspired to create a "home" themed project of your own.  If you join us you'll be in the running for a prize from this month's sponsor as well as possibly earn a spot as a future guest designer for us.  You can get all the info, and see where the rest of the team feels most at home right here.

Have a great week everyone! Pin It

Beautiful Babies

A new week, a new sketch up at Let's Get Sketchy.  Fellow DT member Bev Code created a beauty for us to play with this week.  I pulled out all the stops on this one.  It was one of those layouts that just came together quickly once I pulled all the product that I wanted to use, everything just fell into place.
Psalm 127:3-4 "Children are an inheritance from the Lord.  They are a reward from him.  The children born to a man when he is young are like arrow in the hand of a warrior.  Blessed is the man who has filled his quiver with them. "
I used a Pink Paislee mask, some paint, a Pink Paislee: Christy Tomlinson stamp, along with some Tim Holtz distress ink, and well as some cut files from my Silhouette Cameo.

Here is Bev's great sketch

Some close ups:
That honeycomb file is a Daniela Dobson creation.  You can find it here.
Some Amy Tangerine, Echo Park, Studio Calico, Chic Tags, and My Minds Eye
Those heart tickets were made using the Silhouette
I just love this photo of my sweet babies.  I can remember taking it, they had all been pretending to sleep on the couch, and made sure they were just loud enough for me to come and have a peek at what was going on.  Gosh, I think I would have to seriously bribe them to be this close together, all on the same couch for a photo these days.  At least I have the proof for the younger two, that there once was a time in their lives where their big sis actually enjoyed hanging out with them.

I hope you feel inspired to go and create today.  Hop over here to see what the rest of the DT did with the sketch, and to link up your own creation. Pin It

Painting

I have a few scrappy online friends who love to use paint in their projects. They do such a fabulous job, that I was inspired to get myself some paint of my own around Christmastime.  I've made a few meager attempts to use it, but not to the extent these talented ladies do.  Well I finally got around to it.  A Member Inspiration Challenge over at My Scrapbook Nook opened the door for me.  The challenge was to life this layout by the sweet, and uber  talented Zarah.  I was excited, yet nervous to dig in and get a little messy with my white paint, and stamps.

Using Pink Paislee Prairie Hill Collection
The final product is not exactly as I had hoped, but I can now say I've actually used something a little more exciting on a layout.  I still think the Ormolu tag should be tucked further behind the photo, but it's so cute I want it to show.  Originally the title was on that tag in a yellow font, but it just didn't look right so I removed it and went with this look instead.  Even though it's not exactly as I had envisioned, I think I'll leave it.  Do you ever go back and re-do layots?  I am anxious to give painting another go though, I have another idea I want to try out.

On another note the April issue of Scrap Street Magazine is out.  I had the privilege being asked by one of the writers(who also happens to be one of my scrappy heroes) to create a layout  that documented one of the ways I re-energize myself.  The focus of the article was Spring, focusing on how it is a time of re-birth, and rejuvenation.  The first thing that came to mind was having one-on-one time with some of my closest friends.  I went on the hunt for photos, pulled out some fun, and colourful Studio Calico Memoir papers, and Amy Tangerine goodies, and went to work.  Here is the magazine page where my layout is featured (sorry I'm not actually allowed to post it anywhere until next month).  All the journaling is hidden on a tag, tucked behind the envelope,  it's pretty lengthy, so I'll leave it for when I can share the layout here.  I hope you'll pop over and have a look.  It is officially my new favorite layout.   Some of my fave people, bright and cheery, layered  all over, with fun little bits sprinkled around, and mist...love!  If you take the time to go back a page in the magazine you'll see another super talented scrappy hero of mine, who also happens to be from Winnipeg, and who I had the delight of meeting for the first time last week.

I hope this finds you in the middle of a great week friends.  Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by, and especially for your sweet and encouraging comments.

Creative Scrappers Sketch #196

I am thrilled to be this week's featured designer over at Creative Scrappers.  I was thrilled to receive the request from Kristine back in January.  That was a huge secret to have to hold on to.  Although I didn't make the team this time around, I  am so happy to be able to join them, even if it's just for a week.  Sketch #196 goes live today.  It is another fabulous creation by fellow 'Pegger Nicole Nowosad.  For this  one I was able to brake out the paints I purchased just before Christmas, for the first time.  I am so glad I did, as I'm not sure how I would have created the look otherwise.  Here's the sketch.
And here is my take on it.
Using Studio Calico's November kit
I want to thank Kristine and her team once again, for having me.  I enjoyed the experience very much, and hope that our paths will cross again in the future.  You can see my introduction, and the full design team reveal here.

Happy Sunday friends, may a great week be in store for each of you,

A Layout & A Winner

Happy Friday friends,

Exciting plans for the weekend?  I bet a lot of you are already in the swing of some early family gatherings.  We are feeling the need for a break around here.  I think the fact the the kids are in school right to the end of next week, dh is working a lot of extra hours, the sun only shines for a few hours a day, and it's grey and drab more days than not outside is leaving something to be desired these days.  Rather than a sense of joy and excitement, we're just simply maintaining the status quo.  I have no doubt those "feeling" will come.  Sometimes, however, we have to will ourselves to believe it before we can feel it.  Wouldn't you agree?  I, for one am looking forward to the relaxed pace of Christmas break.  I think the whole family is.  The girls are getting a new game for Christmas, that I'm hoping will be a hit, and something we can enjoy as a family.  I'm also thinking that some scheduled 'family play dates' are in order over the holidays to create some time to just be together, enjoying one another.  What kind of traditions do you have for Christmas break (kids or not), I'd love to hear them.

I created a layout the other day.  It's all about me.  I had the idea to document some of the things that define me at 37.  It seemed like the proper way to say goodbye to that year, before welcoming in 38.  This was my first attempt at painting on my page.  I have a lot to learn, let's just leave it at that :)  Because it's been so long since I've scrapped I felt a little lost when putting this page together.  It actually sat on my table for 3 days before I glued it all down.  I just wasn't loving it, but couldn't figure out what exactly needed to be changed about it.  In the end, I decided to just glue it down, and move on for fear of not getting it done at all.  I used the new My Mind's Eye Funday line, along with some Jillibean Soup, Pink Paislee, Studio Calico, and Basic Grey.  The doily is actually by "Touch" the makers of plastic plates, cups and cutlery you can find in any supermarket.  They were a great deal, a package of 30, in 3 different sizes for $1.50.
This is what the 10 points say:
(1) I cry easily - even during commercials
(2) I walk the thin line between normalcy and OCD
(3) My Grade 12 Math teacher failed my twice, it irritates me to this day.
(4) I've wanted a nose ring for years.  Eight days before my 38th birthday I got one.
(5) I love watching football, even more when I'm alone (no one shushes me)
(6) My feet are almost alwasy cold.
(7) I get so ridiculously attached to book characters, that I physically miss them once I finish.
(8) It concerns me daily that I may fail my children as a mother.
(9) I've always wanted an older sister, and still do.
(10) I have no doubt that if it were not for the grace of God, my life would look utterly and completely different than it does today.  I am so grateful.

I have another layout to share with you on Monday for the Sketch Challenge that will be posted over at Scrapping Everyday Miracles.

Thanks to all of you who took the time to follow me, and enter my Valentine's themed giveaway.  Random.Org selected number 16 as the lucky winner.

Congratulations Kate!  Please email me your snail mail and I'll get your goodies in the mail for you asap.

Thanks for stopping by today, have a wonderful weekend friends.
