A Creative Scrappers reveal & a freebie

This week's sketch is one that I know I want to use again.  I loved it, and know I would never have come up with the idea on my own.  I've said it before, and I'll say it again Jenny is a sketch queen!  Between her and Kristine, I've created layouts that would otherwise have gone un-scrapped. I am so thankful to both of them for the chance to work with sketches that, at times take me out of my comfort zone.
(please excuse the poor lighting, without the right equipment getting a great photo of a white background can be tricky this time of year here in Manitoba)
I used BasicGrey's RSVP collection, and several pieces of the February Paper Issues Swag Bag to complete this layout.  The Swag Bag is a monthly embellishment bag that Cassie puts together filled with fun little, currently hot & trendy bits and pieces to add to all of your crafting projects. It's only $10, even less if you use my code: SHERRI.  Speaking of the Paper Issues shop, have you seen all the great new goodies Cassis has loaded into it?  All the 2014 CHA goodness is starting to arrive.  You can use my code to save 20% off everything you order. Check it out for yourself here.
I just love the Maya Road love paper clip.

How cute is that mini bingo card?
Here is Jenny's fabulous sketch.
I loved the background so much that I created a cut file to go along with it. If you have a Silhouette Cameo, and would like to use my cut file also you can download it here.  I hope you'll enjoy it.

Remember, if you play along with us this month you will earn yourself a chance to win a kit from Paper Camilla Kits.  You have until Feb 28th to link up a new creation using either one of the February CS Sketches.  You may link up as many times as you like, as long as long as each project is a new creation.

Now hop on over to the Creative Scrappers site to see the rest of the DT creations.

Happy Sunday friends!

I'm excited to be able to announce that I will be staying on with what has become my second home in the scrappy world.

A little photo shoot the Isabelle and Théa had together, produced these really cute photos.

The Lovely Miss Jody

I created this layout for the A Flair For Buttons blog a while back.  Thought I'd share it with all of you here too.  I used the gorgeous Fall Themed October Scraptastic Kit.
Miss Jody has been such a source of inspiration for Théa, without her passion for teaching and challenging the kids the way she does, I'm not sure that Théa's love for Tap Dance would have ever evolved to the level it is.

Journaling reads: Miss Jody - by her passion & humour and plain love for the discipline ignited a passion for Tap in Théa.  The girl is forever tapping: at the sink, while brushing her teeth, in her desk while working, in the shower!  Everywhere...I just love to watch her little feet make music.  I will be forever grateful to this great teacher.
I added a little visual interest to my background by stitching diagonal lines across the white cardstock, and misting a little over top of my mini chicken wire mask.  The quote I used I discovered on Pinterest somewhere (sorry I forgot to save the link for credit).
Hope you're feeling inspired to go and create something great.  You can see more of the Lovely Words sets in the shop here.

Thank you so much for stopping by today friends!

Her Best Day Ever

Ever have an idea pop into your head for a layout design, and you just have to get it out asap?

I had the idea for this background on the way home from dropping the kids off at school on Thursday last week, and just had to come home and get it out.  Thanks to the lovely greyness of the skies here, and working Friday and Saturday, I was unable to get a photo of the layout until this afternoon when I got home from work.  I loved the Fall paper combinations, and colours in the November Scraptastic Home kit so much, I wanted to showcase them all at once on the same layout, and thought that something like this would be a great way to do it.
You can still see how completely thrilled she is to have opened her new 5c.
Pulled in some of the embellishments from the November This Life Noted kit, as well as the Add-On kit here also.  Really love the colours of the sequins this month.
Took the smile sentiment and used 3D foam tape to pop it off the page.
The brown letters were from the This Life Noted kit also.  And I typed the "14th birthday surprise" onto a scrap piece of cardstock, and popped it off the page, layered over top of one of the cardstock stickers in the kit.
We celebrated Belle's 14th birthday last Wednesday.  Belle was shocked when she opened this iPhone.  If there is anything we've learned as parents it is to never say never.  As much as we thought we would never buy our kids a phone, we certainly changed our tune.  With the amount of time this one is at school late, or out with friends, or late at the Dance Studio, we found it would certainly be worth the extra few dollars a month to be able to get ahold of her whenever we need to, and vice-versa.  All that to say we caved, and she's one happy girl.

Thanks for stopping by today friends.  I sure appreciate it.

eta: my friend Nicole just posted these gorgeous layouts on the Scraptastic Blog today.  Seeing them again today, I remembered that she shared them on FB awhile back, when she first completed them.  As much as I thought the stitched triangles were my genius idea, I think my sub-conscience might have remembered seeing them on her project.  Bummer, I thought they were my idea, but she obviously used the idea first so I want to give credit where credit is due.  You can see more of Nicole's gorgeous work on her blog here.

Pinterest Inspired

Had this little tutorial up on the Scraptastic blog earlier this week.

Our Scraptatic kits often include washi tape, and I'm not always sure how to put mine to use.  When I found this washi tape banner on Pinterest, I thought it would be fun to recreate it on a layout.
source
I simply grabbed a length of American Crafts jute.  And tore off about a 3" length strips of washi, folding it around the jute and adhered it to itself.

Once my banner was complete I created the base of my layout.

I then placed my handmade banner where it worked best.

You'll noticed I went with the traditional pennant style rather than the basic triangle shape for my banner.

And here is my completed layout.
The Quote is also a Pinterest source.
I used both the We Are Family Main Kit and Add on Kit featuring the Teresa Collins Family Stories Collection, to complete this layout.

Has Pinterest inspired you lately?  What have you created with that inspiration?  I would love to come over and have a peek.

Thanks for stopping by today friends.  Have a wonderful Thursday! Pin It

Project Life June 2-8

I have another Project Life week to share with you today.

This time around I used the Scraptastic June kit.  You may recall that this kit is not a PL kit, just a regular scrapbooking kit.  That's the beauty of PL, you really can use anything to create your pages.

Side A

SideB

Some close ups:
The title card was created using many of the stickers from the sticker sheet included in the kit.  The wood veneer pennant is from the Add On kit, and that triangle cluster stamp was from one of the stamp sets.

I really, really wanted to record the story of the "Our Robin Family", but had so many photos that I also wanted to include in our week.  The solution was to create a little pocked from scraps and tuck it right behind one of the pockets.  I used one of the stickers from the set to function as a tab, so down the road people would know that there was a little something extra in that pocket.

That bottom blue card includes 2 stamps also from the kit.  The "Quoted" and "Forever and a day" are both Scraptastic exclusives, I'm pretty sure they'll get a lot of use from here on out.

There you have it another week under my belt.  I am all caught up to date, just haven't photographed them yet (to be honest that is my least favourite part of blogging).  I'll be sure to share soon.

Hope you're in for wonderful Sunday friends, thank you much for stopping by today.

Playing With Scraptastic Kit Club

Popping in to share a couple of layouts I posted over at the Sraptastic blog last week.  Funky Town, the June kit was packed with great papers and embellishments, and easy to create with.  It featured the fabulous BasicGrey Hipster collection.

The Hipster Collection came with a package of funky paper banners.  I loved the look of them, but really wanted to use them in a fun, less conventional way, and came up with this.
I decided to use them more like strips of patterned paper rather than actual banners above, or under my photo like usual.  For visual interest I flipped some of the pennants along the strand.  Lots of journaling on this one.  I wanted to capture what the day was all about, as I tagged along with Eden's class on a field trip to the Manitoba Legislative Building, The Forks, and the Children's Museum.  Notice the lack of title on this one.  There are a couple of reasons for that.  One, I thought the page was busy enough without it, and two, the photo and title would really match, this photos was just one of many taken throughout the day on our 3 stops, so I decided to skip the title and rather focus on the story in my journaling.

This next project was created for this month's sketch challenge.  The photos are of Théa and our little neighbour guy playing around in one of their trees in the backyard.  They were too cute not to capture 'on film' as a bonus they both happened to be wearing colours that matched the papers perfectly.
You can link up with Jana's sketch challenge here.
This one I shared earlier, it was my challenge for the month - to create a project using a triangle element.  As you can see I went to town with my Silhouette on this one.
You have one more day to link up your own version of using a triangle element on a project here.
I have one more project yet to share on the blog.  It is a Project Life spread using the kit.  That will be up next week, so keep an eye out for it.

The July kits have been revealed in all their goodness today.  Some really great Simple Stories, and Crate Papers this month to name a few.  Here is just a taste for you.

A Scraptastic Challenge and a Free Cut File

I'm up over at the Scraptastic Blog today with a Thursday Challenge.  Here is a little sneak for you...

Can you guess what the challenge is?  Enticed to see the rest of it?  You'll have to pop over to the blog to see the completed layout, and get the scoop on how to join us in our monthly challenges.  There is a $20 gift certificate to the Scraptastic Store up for grabs for those who play along.

I have also made the background file I created with my Silhouette Cameo available for you to download today.  It may look complex but it all began with one little row of 3 triangles, flipped around and copied here and there on the page.

You may download the file here.
This is my own personal creation made available for your own personal use only.  I would very much appreciate it if you would please respect that, and link back to me if and when you use it.

Hope you'll play along with us.  And if you haven't yet you really should check out the kits.  Every single month Jessica knocks it out of the park, and with Kaitlin's fabulous custom flair, and now entire Project Life kit you can't find a better kit out there for the price.  This month's Funk Town kit that I used here is currently sold out, but there is a whole store full of goodies to check out.  And while you're there you may want to get yourself on the Member's List for July.  Sneaks are going out right away.  It's a great kit club with kits selling as low as $28/month, and no commitment, meaning you may skip a kit for a month or two, or cancel at any time without penalty.  Great deal right?  Check out the amazing kits here.

Thanks for stopping in today friends.  I'll be back tomorrow with a just for fun layout using the luscious Cottage Farm line by Pink Paislee.

Oh Baby!

Did you know that Chic Tags has some really cute baby themed tags?  They are part of a recently released collection called Oh Baby!  There is a pink line for girls and a blue line for boys.  It's been a while since I have heard the pitter patter of little feet in my home, but I just had to use these sweet tags on a layout.

This is where sweet, sweet Ella comes in.
This little lady sure knows how to light up a room.  She's so intelligent, and cuter than a button.  Her mom sent me this adorable photo of her loving her new pink tutu, a perfect match for the Oh Baby! collection.

Because I didn't really have the exact shade of pink in any of my patterned papers, I decided to go with a variety of pinks, mixed with some black, white, and off white.  I really like the end result.

If you know my scrappy style, you know how much I love office supply tags.  How cute are these Oh Baby! ones, shown here tucked behind the "Sweet Baby Girl Icon"

That super cute chevron card is also form the collection

See that circle/star cut file?  It's a Chic Tags cut file, you can grab it yourself for FREE right here.

I many no longer have babies to raise, but I am not going to let that stop me from using the adorable Oh Baby collection.

Hope you feel inspired to create something beautiful today!

So Totally Me

I love taking a sketch and making it my own.  And that's exactly what I did with this week's sketch at Let's Get Sketchy.
I used the brand spankin' new BasicGrey Hipster Collection to create this one.
I loved the line so much I purchased the wood veneer embellishment package as well as one of the sticker sheets.
I fussy cut some of the flowers from one of the sheets of paper and layered them one atop the other for a better cluster look.  I also stitched my banner together placing a few My Mind's Eye enamel dots in the tiny spaces.

The photo is a selfie I took on the first really cool day of Fall.  I pulled out my comfy sweater and my hat, and spent the day in my craft room, ignoring the cold.  Journaling reads "Kinda love the first cool day when I can pull out the comfy sweater and hat".

And this is what the original sketch looked like.
You can see that there are definitely similarities between the two, but it's not an exact replica.  To see how the other designers used the sketch, and link up your own take for a chance at this month's sponsored prize hop over here.

And in case you missed it.  I offered up some freebie Cameo files yesterday.  You can grab yours here.

Have a wonderful Monday, and Happy Memorial Day to all my US readers.  May you spend the day enjoying the freedom that was so hard won for you. Pin It

The Sugar Factory & Free Cut Friday

You know when you have a great idea for a layout, but then as it's coming together it's not actually looking like the picture you had in your head?  Well that's what happened to me this week.  Here is my layout.

The challenge at Use It Tuesday this week is to a 'beloved favorite'.  I have loved this sheet of corrugated alphabets by Jillibean soup for years now.  The problem is that every time I try to use them I no longer had the letters I needed to create the title I wanted to use, or that they were just too big for the design of the page.  Solution: take all remaining letters out and back with patterned paper.  All in all not a bad plan, except that the photo I chose to use was filled with colour, as was the patterned paper I used to back the corrugated alphabet.  I think overall it's just too darn much colour.  A black and white photo may have been the better choice here.  I shuffled paper around this layout for way too long.  Finally I just decided to just go with it.  I don't hate it, but it's definitely not one of my faves.  Why post it you ask?  To keep myself humble and show others that it's okay to have mediocre pages in your albums/blog posts, not everything has to be spectacular right?!  It's capturing the memories of the events that is the most important right?!  The rest of the team have some great beloved faves to share with you.  You can see them all here, and link up your own layout for a chance at a Guest DT spot on our team.

Speaking of our Design Team, we are actually hosting a call right now.  The ladies are a really sweet bunch to work with, and the requirements are very reasonable.  The term runs from July to December, and you have until May 31st to apply.  I encourage you to check out the detail here on the blog.

In case you missed it, Chic Tags posted a brand new set of Silhouette files yesterday for Freebie Friday.  Run over and check them out on the blog.

That's if for the long weekend Saturday.  I have to work, I hope you're spending it, but doing something fun with those you love.

Thanks for popping in today! Pin It
