A card for the Graduate

I wanted to share a quick card I created a couple of weeks ago for the first little girl to steal my heart.

I cannot believe Miss Maddy has graduated.  I tried to create a card that reflected how beautiful she is; inside and out.  This doesn't even begin to scratch the surface.
I used some Crate Paper goodness along with some Simple Stories.

I couldn't be more proud of this intelligent, quirky, kind, compassionate, funny, adorable girl if she were my own.  I love you Miss Maddy, and can't wait to see the adventure your dreams will take you on, as you follow the will of God for your life.  Australia is not even going to know what hit it when you arrive!

A little Thank You

Popping in to share a little last minute thank you card I created for someone special recently.

The Simple Stories I Am Collection is still one of my favourites.  The theme the colours, the classic Vintage feel of all Simple Stories lines.  A simple frame, ephemera, a couple of enamel dots and some alphabet stickers, and voila an easy peasy card to express my thanks.

Thanks for popping today friends! Pin It

Guest Designer - Fancy Pants Designs Part 2

I almost forgot to share the projects I created with the True Friends Collection for the my Guest spot on the Fancy Pants Designs post a while back.

We just all just happened to be wearing coordinating colours to match the collection on the night Isabelle graduated from Grade Nine.
I enjoyed layering several of the tags and photo frames together, and how cute is that button collection.

And for the first time in a long, long time I was even inspired to create a few cards.

I had a blast guesting for them, and really enjoyed the products they sent me to work with.  I was overwhelmed by their generosity.

Thanks for stopping by today friends!

Happy Birthday Théa!

Today we celebrate the day this girl came into our lives.  She was such a little peanut, weighing in at 7lbs, 0.5oz, and only 20" long.  Our baby burrito brought with her so much joy and happiness. Three months later, she was as round, as round can be, 100% chub-a-licious!
3 months
From 6 months she would smile and wave to anyone who looked at her, saying "hi, hi".  We use to say she was put on this earth to make me people feel happy.
6 months
She was easy going and content just to "be", also the reason she didn't walk until she was 17 months old.

Today, she is a beautiful 12 year old.  Full of love and a creative spirit, gentle spirit.
She loves to dance, and draw, play violin, and piano, and record secret singing voice memos on her iPod.  I can't believe we've just registered her for Jr. High.  We look forward to many, many more years of watching her grow and become, more and more of the person the Lord created her to be.

We love you more than the sun, and the moon, and the stars in the sky Théa Bean xoxo Pin It

A Birthday Layout

We recently celebrated our baby hitting double digits.  Eden is the third of 3 girls, therefore making it a little difficult to know what to get her for Christmases an birthdays.  This year, however was an exception.  Eden is a HUGE Taylor Swift fan, and Taylor just happened to be coming to Winnipeg the weekend after Eden's birthday.  We decided to splurge on our baby, and get her a gift she wouldn't forget for a while: a couple of tickets to the show.

Even though I prefer the look of only one or two photos on a page, I just had to make an exception and scrap all of these photos on the same page.  The look of sheer elation on her face was so perfect I wanted to include the series of photos on my layout.  The Chic Tags Birthday Cake Collection was, of course, just perfect to document this big occasion in our home.

Here are a few close ups.

I just love the way this one turned out.  Just one piece of patterned paper, some chipboard pieces from the Crate Paper The Pier Collection, and some Chic Tags.

I also used a few of the Birthday Cake Tags to make our teacher Thank You cards for the year.  Same sentiment, so I figured why not.

And with that we officially begin our Summer Holidays.  So far July looks pretty packed, a possible trip out to Saskatchewan and Calgary for all of us and 3 days later a trip to CHA in Vegas for me.  It'll be here before I know it.  Any of my bloggy friends going to be there?  I have a few more projects waiting to make their way onto the blog so keep your eyes open for them.

Have a wonderful day all!

Coffee Filter Ruffles & A Winner

Happy Hump Day friends!

Last week, while searching for something to share over at Scrapping Everyday Miracles, I discovered a tutorial that I thought was so cool, I just had to try it right away: coffee Filter Ruffles.  You can see the link that I first discovered here.  I was so inspired by it, that I just had to give it a try right away so I could share it with today.

These are the images that got me so excited.
Cut the centre out of a few stacked coffee filters

To create your own ruffles follow these easy steps.  Grab a few coffee filters, and cut out the centre.  I'm saving my centres to use on another craft someday.  So I had to give it a try for myself.  I thought the ruffle layers were a little large though, so I cut them in half, both lengthwise and widthwise.

I then grabbed a handful of Studio Calico Mr. Huey's
and began dying the ruffles one at a time.

End result looked like this.  I did end up adding an extra shade of green.

You'll notice that the coverage is a little splotchy in some areas.
I decided not to worry about it, but just to go with the flow.

Using double sided tape I covered the bottom, front of the card and began layering.
I snipped off the parts of the ruffles that were over hanging.
To finish it off, I simply added a couple little embellishments,
and voila, a happy little card to add to my stash.

Have you ever seen a tip/technique or any idea that got you so excited you had to try it right away.  If so, link me up I'd love to see what inspires you.

Lastly I have a winner for my Kiwi Lane Designs blog hop.  I want to thank all of you for stopping by and commenting, and especially those that became new followers.  I hope to continue to inspire you with quality, and creative projects throughout the year.

Congratulations Valerie!  You have won my set of Tiny Accents Templates, and some fabulous Love Notes tags from Chic Tags.  Please send an email to sherrifunkATgmailDOTcom with your snail mail.  And I will get your prize out to you asap.  If I do not hear from you by Wed February 13, I will choose another winner.  Congrats again!

I am off for a quick trip to Mexico tomorrow.  Just me and my hubs, really looking forward to some time away, just the two of us.  I hope to have a few photos of sand and sun for you next week.  Until then, enjoy the rest of your week everyone, and thank you so much for stopping by today. Pin It

Chic Tags Sale - Day 9

It continues today with these babies.
I decided to use mine to make a handful of quick and easy Christmas cards. I grabbed these supplies to use as my base, and went to work.

Here's a sneak peek of what's up at the Chic Tags blog.

I'd love if you'd hop over and have a look at Chic Tags.  You can see all the fabulous Christmas tags in the shop here.  Each day, for 12 days there is a new set on sale for just a buck, there are a few more days left, and I happen to know there will be something super special up for grabs during one of them.  You'll have to check back daily to see what it is.

I'm off to church, and then to the Pancake House for an early birthday celebration.  Today marks the last day of my 38th year, bah, I can't even believe it!

Happy Sunday friends, thanks for stopping by!

Welcome Back

Welcome to the weekend!

If you're anything like me you are feeling just a little more tired than you have been for the past two months.  The start of the new school year always seems to arrive too quickly, and feels like a whirlwind of activity, with countless forms to be filled out and returned, and a the usual school newsletters, and other pertinent information to be reviewed.

For the past few years I have been making cards to send along with the girls on the first day of school.  My hope is that a simple card will help their new teacher to feel valued and appreciated as he/she takes on a new set of students for the next 10 months of the year.

This year I created super simple "Welcome Back" cards using Lily Bee Design Double Dutch collection, and my hexagon punches.
Rather than my usual habit of creating one-of-a-kind cards, this year, I decided to stick to the same design on all 4 cards changing it up just a bit between the two colours.
Simple, yet cheerful.
Some of the items are from my stash, like the white trim, and office supply tags, but the rest can be found in the Let's Capture Our Memories store.

Speaking of the store.  You may want to pop over and check out all the new Echo Park collections in there.
have all been added and are ready for purchase.

Enjoy your Saturday friends, and happy creating!

A New Design Team

Thanks for all your well wishes and comments on my application to the Let's Get Sketchy team.

I have a new badge as of today ------------------------------------------------------------------>>>

Brenshevia has put together another wonderfully diverse team, and I am honored to be a part of it this time around.  I can't believe it took me so long to discover this site, they have fabulous sketches, great sponsors, and many loyal members.  I have a feeling I'm really going to like it there.  Some of the current DT have already made a point of saying hello and welcoming us newbies to the team.  I don't think it will take long before we all start to feel right at home.  You can take a look at the rest of the new team here.  And you still have a few days to get in on the last sketch challenge if you'd like to be eligible for this month's sponsored prize by Karla's Kreative Korner you can see the sketch here.

Today I'm working on my first sketch for next month.  I'm on Team B, which means our first sketch will go live the second week of the month.  I'll be sure to keep you posted though, it's a good one.

In other news we finally had the chance to meet this little miracle yesterday.
We fell instantly in love with little Rowan.  The girls couldn't wait their turn to hold her.  What I thought would be a short little visit, turned into 2.5 hours.  It didn't hurt that we love her parents as much as we love her so there was plenty to talk about.  Mostly, though it was because none of us wanted to give her up once we finally got our turn to snuggle.

And to leave you with something scrappy how about a photo of the card I created for her.
The design was lifted from a card I saw in a recent issue of Scrapbook Trends magazine by Jinny Newlin

That's if for me.  Thank you for stopping by today friends!

I Made Cards!!!

You're shocked, I know, because I never make cards.  Funny thing is that, that's how I started scrapbooking.  Years ago my sister-in-law began selling Creative Memories product.  She wanted me to host a party to help her get started.  I was pretty set on the fact that I would not be getting into scrapping anytime soon (time, cost, too many hobbies, etc), but thought I'd help her out, and at least buys some pens and paper since I made cards.  Needless to say things changed.  As I began scrapping more, and meeting more advanced card makers I pretty much stopped making cards all together.  I was too intimidated by others' amazing creations (a-hem, Danni, Shellye, Anabelle...to name a few) and began seeing my own  creations as sub-standard.  I simply put the craft aside and carried on with scrapping.  Fast forward to a couple of months ago when I won this stamp set from my friend, and fellow DT member at Scrapping Everyday Miracles, Elizabeth.
Set C1467 - Spring
I thought it would be such a waste to just let them sit there untouched, and couldn't bring myself to just give them away or hand them down to my kids.  My friend Hilde also won the same set (Elizabeth is sweet like that, and offered up two sets as a prize).  All those things combined left only one option.  Hunker down, get over myself and make some cards.

I managed to create 4 cards one afternoon.
I'm doing something new today; guesting on a friend's blog.  I was invited by Elizabeth, my friend, and fellow Scrapping Everyday DT member to guest for her, as she's doing a "Feature a Friend Friday" on her blog.  To see these cards in detail I hope you will  pop over to her blog and check them out.

As an extra little surprise today Hilde and I have decided to treat you to a "twin post".  Seeing as we both won the same set, we thought it would be fun to create together.  Well not so much together as in the same room, at the same time, seeing as she's over 4000 miles away, but rather in the same week.  She is a real sweetheart with a great sense of humour, a heart full of love, and a big shoulder to lean on/cry on when needed.  Her style is simple, yet playful  with fun little touches throughout.  She's my dear friend, and I know she'd appreciate the visit.  You can see her fabulous creations with set C1467 here.  Please leave her some love, and say hi for me.

Before I go I just want to extend a huge thank you to Elizabeth for inviting me to guest for her today.  I hope you are able to stop by and say hello.  I wouldn't even mind if you left me a little love *wink*.

Have a wonderful day friends!

Great News!

Check out my new badge ---------------------------------------------------------------------->>>>

I will be designing for Let's Capture These sketches

I am so excited to have been selected to work along side Rosemary, and several other sweet ladies I've been getting to know over at the Let's Capture Our Memories Forum.  I applied on a whim, with some hesitancy given my luck with Creative Scrappers, but this time I got a "yes".  Sure feels good.  The big reveal of the new team will happen on Friday, with photos and bios.  But the announcement was made tonight, so I am free to share it with all of you right away. I see a few other familiar names on the list  too.  I am thrilled to be on the same team as each of them.  I'll wait to let them share their good news before I blab it out here.  The role is  to design a layout every other week using the sketches created by the talented sketch team, as well as participate in the forum which I'm already doing, so, easy peasy right?!

My big box of Crate Paper Pretty Party should be arriving any day now, followed by some yummy Evaliscious goodies, I can't wait to dig into that stuff and get creating.

For now I'll leave you with a random layout I created of my in-laws.  They were here for brunch one day.  After whipping up the whip cream I offered them the beaters.  To my surprise they both accepted, so of course I had to make them pose for a photo.  I love when they surprise me like that.
Using some old and some new My Mind's Eye
And here are the Father's Day cards I created for D and his Dad, I realized I never posted them.
Using My Mind's Eye Lost & Found Two 6x6 pads
Thanks for popping by today friends, I sure appreciate that you take the time!

Party Photos

Nothing too creative, or fancy today.

Just photos of Eden's little family party the other day.  My brother, his wife, their son, D's sister's family, minus her, and my mother and father-in-law.  We're a small family.  I haven't edited the photos, just wanted to share. If you rest your mouse over the photos you can see a little info about most of them.

And here is a layout I created about her the other day.

I loved celebrating this fiercely passionate, loyal, funny, and loving girl of mine.

We're spending most of our weekend performing in and/or spectating 3 Dance Recitals.  The first is tonight.  But this is it, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.  Next Wednesday night, right after per-registration for next year is complete.

Have a wonderful weekend friends.  I'll be back on Monday with an SEM Sketch Challenge for you.
