An 8th Birthday Party & A Grade 6 Graduation

We celebrated two events in our family this past week.  Although Eden's actual birthday was a couple of weeks ago, we we're able to celebrate with friends until recently.  She chose to celebrate at the Nature Playground I wrote about a while back.  The day was gorgeous, the sun was shining, and the weather co-operated nicely for an outdoor party.
I thought this little cake was super cute.  No, I didn't make it.

On Tuesday we made our last trip to Bairdmore Elementary School to celebrate the Grade Six Graduation of this girl.
In front of our house moments before we left.

Man 'they' weren't kidding when 'they' said "it goes by quickly".  I can vividly remember taking her to school on her first day.  She was so excited to finally be going to school like a big girl.  I also remember the tears that were shed.  No, not because I had to leave her there, alone, but because she wasn't allowed to stay all day (here, public schools are only half day kindergarten).  She cried the whole way home, saying "it was too short, why can't she stay longer?"  That memory still  makes me laugh.  Now here we are seven years later.  A beautiful young woman, with many new friends, countless new experiences, and a scrapbook full of sweet memories of her early school years.  Her teacher this year was fantastic.  She's a perfect fit for grade six.  She challenged her kids to be great, she had them reading beyond their own expectations, and falling in love with the power of a good book.  Isabelle did better this year than in any previous year in school.  Her marks were outstanding.  She did her homework independently, and on time, and responded well to our feedback, and that of her teacher to improve her study habits, public speaking, and writing.  We are so proud of her.  And this dress.  Isn't it cute.  On the way to Grad she looked at me and said "I can't believe I'm wearing a dress, and that I actually really like it".  For a girl who lives in t-shirts, and jeggings all year, the dress is a very much welcomed addition to her wardrobe.

Yes Belle will be taller then me by the fall :(
The icing on the cake for this Grad Day was getting a medal.  Although it came later than anticipated the official times finally came in for the Manitoba Marathon Relay groups.  Belle's group of five Grade 4-6 kids came in first in their category.  We are so proud of her and her group.
This is the 3rd year in a row Mr. Dyck, the gym teacher has had a first place team in the Manitoba Marathon Relay.

Also on the agenda for this week has been transforming the front and back yard. But that's a post for another day.

This weekend we celebrate Canada Day, so a long weekend is in the works.  Hope to get the trailer opened, see some fireworks, and have a few drinks, with a few friends.  Hope your weekend is shaping up to be a good one too.

Have a good one friends, thanks for popping in.

♥S.

good gracious, i did a double take at every picture of Isabelle - she looks so much like you! abbey had grade 5 "grad" (which was really more like a school assembly) and gave a speech. her outfit of choice? a tshirt and bike shorts. (although she did say it was a "fancy" tshirt because it had no words). i can't imagine what it would/will be like to see her in this older tween stage!

hope your summer's off to a good start, Sherri!

Oh! The day looks really gorgeous and even she does. That’s a beautiful dress she is wearing and congratulations to her on graduating. It looks like one of the venues in Los Angeles where we celebrated my daughter’s birthday last month. It’s a fine place, they even have delicious food. Also, the cake is really pretty!
