Sketchy Thursday

Susan provided us with another great sketch this month at Scraptastic.  The January Kit made putting this one together a breeze.  I created this layout the same evening my kit arrived.  Great sketch, great product, a little free time, and voila a layout is born.
I created that Spring Break frame with my Silhouette Cameo.
This photo is one of many form our family trip to Banff last Spring Break.  I took my SLR camera up to the top one day with me and got some great family photos of us and the other family we were with.  So glad I did it, the weather and the view were just perfect.

Here is the sketch Susan created.

The chipboard Maya Road snowflakes are awesome aren't they.  They're actually bare, but I've embossed mine with white embossing powder.  I love the way they look on the dark woodgrain paper.
And how great is that washi?  Makes me think of a cozy knit sweater.
To have a peek at the gorgeous layouts some of the other dt came out with hop over to the Scraptastic blog here.  And link up your own creation for a chance at a Scraptastic gift certificate.

Chic Tags and a You Tube Tutorial

Happy Tuesday friends.  I'm sharing a post I had up on the Chic Tags blog yesterday.

In case you've somehow missed it Chic Tags has been putting together fun little kits of journal cards, flair buttons and such each month. The December kit was totally great, but somehow in my December scrapping, I just never got to break it open.  I pulled it out last week, however determined to use it up.

Here is a perfect example of the great job Veronic and Albert do creating kits, that go with the current month's possible celebrations, but also your everyday pictures.  The Christmas kit, had a wonderful colour combination, and worked great for this layout, even though December is long behind us.  I pulled out a few other coordinating tags and went to town on this layout of my hubby and I enjoying our favourite past time.  Cheering on the Winnipeg Jets live at the arena.
Here I've stitched a tag from the School House Collection to one from the December Kit.  I love the added surprise you get when you pull the card from the envelope to read the hidden journaling.
Even though "good cheer" is pretty synonymous with Christmas, I thought it was a pretty good fit for a sports fan themed page too.

Interested in how to create this background using the Silhouette Cameo and this freebie Chic Tags cut file?  Check out my YouTube tutorial here if you're interested.

A little Moments In Between Share

Hi there friends, Surprise, I'm still recording snippets of our everyday lives here.  I've finally photographed some more of my Moments In Between album to share with you.

 November 3-9

Left side

Right Side
This was kept super duper simple.   Being 3 weeks shy of finising off 2013, I wa really tyring to keep things rather simple, but still me.  I used the Project Life Honey Kit to complete this week.  I've included a few things from our trip to Saskatoon with Théa for her Triple Threat Dance Convention, like a wrist bands, and our hotel room key.  I'm still enjoying the process, I would simply love more time in my week to be able to keep up to date, haha.

How about you?  Still working on your Project Life type memory keeping?  Jut creating for fun?   Don't forget about your chance to link up with our current Issue at Paper Issues, our current sketch at Creative Scrappers, and our current sketch at Chic Tags, there are some sweet prizes up for grabs from all.

Tiny Dancers

Happy Sunday friends,

I've got sketch #260 to share with you today.  This photo was taken last Spring at the girls' Dance Recital, just before Eden and her class took the stage for their Ballet performance.  I love how attentive the girls are being with their assistant teacher Miss Melissa.  The all look so beautiful and grown up in their costumes.
Journaling reads "It has been so wonderful watching the girls transform into beautiful ballerinas during their short time at Kick It Dance Studio June 2013"
Here is Jenny's awesome sketch
Fun sketch right?  Initially I wanted to use my Cameo to cut the squares out of my background.  I decided there would be more dimension to the layout, however if I simply cut the squares out of patterned paper and stitched them to the layout instead.

Here's a close up of that look.
It's been pointed out to me that it looks as though the title reads "Tiny Dangers"  Be assured there is nothing dangerous about these cutie pies.  The title in fact reads "Tiny Dancers".  Not sure how I missed that, but oh well it's simply a funny letter/paper placement.
I used my Amy Tangerine stencil to add some hand stitching here.

I really felt the it was missing my own personal touch with just the triangles and title, so I added a few more embellishments around the photo.

To be eligible to win this kit from My Creative Scrapbook this month all you need to do is create a layout and enter the challenges using our inlnkz widget at the end of the reveals for Sketches 259-260.
I hope you're able to link up with us this week, you never know, you may just be our featured player one Wednesday.  Now please pop over to the Creative Scrapper blog and see how the rest of the team has put the sketch to use.

December Moments Album Pt 1

I've never been able to create a base for an album and fill it later.  I don't know why, but I just can't do it.  I know many of you took the Stocking Stuffer Class here, and walked away with a gorgeously filled album all ready to go for the season, and that's great.  As I filled a little more of mine this past week, however, it got me wondering if anyone else is in the same boat as I.  If you can relate, then let this post serve to support and encourage you.

I don't have all that many photos (I tend to go some years with a boatload of photos, and other years with only a handful.  This year is on the skimpy side), so I debated not putting anything together at all, but knew that I would regret it later on.  As the kids are getting older, and bigger, and life seems to be whizzing by at lightning speed I find so much joy in looking back at the old Christmas albums (they get pulled out each year with the rest of the Christmas decor), that's enough motivation to pull something together, even if it's just simple.

I decided to go with a Simple Stories binder, the December This Life Noted kit, a few pieces from the Home For The Holidays Kit, and some items from my stash.

Here is my cover.  I used a freebie file for the Christmas cut, and created the date frame with my Silhouette Cameo.  Nothing flashy, but a little better than the naked chipboard (although it did cross my mind just to leave it natural, I won't lie).

Title Page
I used the December cut file from the Scraptastic Stocking Stuffer class and tweaked it a bit to create the title for my album.  I decided to go with "December Moments" as I knew there were only going to be a few photos over the course of the month, and not one a day.

Page 1

 Page 2&3
It says Favourites on the left, but that polka dot paper was not the best choice.

 Page 4&5
I just had to sneak a couple of birthday photos in the album seeing as it's smack dab in the middle of the month.  Those This Life Noted cards were perfect to help document our evening too.

 Page 6&7

 Page 8
So you see?  No need to make it a big deal with all sorts of bling, and embellies.  It just as to be, whatever is right for you.  Whatever will bring a smile to your face when you pull it out years down the road.  I still have Christmas day to print and get in the album, hope to get that done before long.

I hope that if you've been putting off putting together a little something for your Christmas photos that you've been inspired to print them out and get them in some sort of album.  Big or small, fancy or not. this hobby is all about preserving our memories, in the best way that we can. Pin It

Lucky

Hey friends,

Just popping in to share a post I had up on the Paper Issues Blog earlier this week.

This is the first time in a long time that I have mixed so many different manufactures on one layout. Everything went together so nicely, it was actually pretty easy.  A little American Crafts, some Pink Paislee, and of course Fancy Pants designs compliment each other well.

I count my blessings to have such great scrappy friends in my life.  I know that I am lucky to be able to share my love for this hobby with women who get the excitement of pretty paper, and fun new embellishments.
The feather cut file is from the Silhouette store.
Flo, Tara, and I have developed a habit of PL nights every few months.  One of us hosts, and provides supper, and we scrap well into the evening.  On this occasion the dogs also came along for a little one-on-one time.
I just love this Amy Tangerine embroidery stencil.  It is a fun and easy way o add visual interest to your page.
The "lucky" cut file was a freebie by Kerri Bradford.
To create an ombre effect I used 2 colours of embroidery thread to complete my stitched chevron.  I've hidden the journal on a tag inside the envelope.  It reads "How lucky I am to have so many wonderful women in my life who enjoy scrapping the way I do.  Flo, Tara & I have had fun hosting PL night b/twn us.  Girls, dogs, food, and fun.  What could be better?
Have you been looking for these Studio Calico Veneer stars?  Cassie at Paper Issues was able to get her hands on more of these.  They are once again available in the store.  I have a feeling they won't be around for long so you won't want to wait.  Remember you can use my code SHERRI for 20% off your order anytime.  You can see the latest additions to the store right here.

A Merry Moment

I was photographing layouts one morning when all of a sudden I turn around and here are these two looking all adorable.  Of course I had to get a few photos.
I have so enjoyed the Fancy Pants Merry Little Christmas collection.  With the help of the Hashtag Winter, and Numbers&Letters 1 sets, and my Silhouette Cameo this layout came together very quickly.

I've been hoarding this flair since summer, so it felt great to use it up before the end of the year.

The Hashtag winter flair is one of my favourite sets, and looking forward to using more up on my upcoming winter layouts.

Speaking of winter, and how much I want it to be over (well okay I was the only one speaking, haha), have you seen the new Valentines flair Shelly now has in the shop.  Some super cute chalkboard, and traditional pink and red ones.

Told you, cute right?  I need to get some quick.  You can get you hands on them here in the Etsy store.

Chic Tags & Epiphany Crafts

Some of the Chic Tags dt were fortunate enough to join the Eiphany Crafts team to play this month.
I was giving the scalloped circle shape tool to use on my pages.

I like the way the mini icons look when placed under the scalloped buttons, almost like really cool flair. The first layout was based off the Chic Tags Sunday sketch.  You can see it here, and link up your own for a chance to win.  The background for the second layout was created by replicating and welding this Chic Tags cut file over and over again, then backing with patterned paper for the Happy Place Collection.  Keep you eyes peeled to the blog for a tutorial on how to replicate the look.  Don't forget you have the opportunity to win your very own Epiphany Craft tool by commenting here on the Chic Tags blog, or by entering here on the Epiphany Crafts blog.

Playing with PageMaps & an announement

Several of the Scraptastic DT had the opportunity to join Becky Fleck this month for her PageMaps reveal.  We were each given a sketch to work with and were free to use one of the two December Main Kits.  I chose to work with the Home For The Holidays kit, and had a fun 8x5x11 sketch to work with.
Here is my layout

And here is the sketch I worked with
You can see that I stayed very true to the sketch, and added only a few of my own personal touches, like the veneer deer.

I just loved that little guy and had to work him in somehow.  I figured since deer were represented on the patterned paper in the sketch he would be a good fit.

For the rounded title up top I hand stitched with some red embroidery thread, and then used one of the stamps in the kit to stamp around the circle.  Rather than putting the stamp onto an acrylic blog I simply used my fingers to bend the stamp around the stitching.  I practiced this a few times on scrap paper, however, before adding it to my layout.

You'll also notice here if you look closely that I've matted my entire layout onto a piece of light brown cardstock, it somehow made the layout look a little more finished in my opinion.  Now, getting a photo that was straight, was a whole other ball of wax, and no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't pull it off, hence the all white only background you see in the photo of the complete layout.

A big thank you to Becky for inviting us to play along this month, I really enjoyed working with the sketch.  The rest of her dt, and ours as well created some wonderful layouts as well.  I would encourage you to pop over and have a peek if you've got a minute.  You can see the full reveal here.

I have one other bit of fun news to share....

I'm pretty excited about joining the super spunky, hilariously funny group of girls at Paper Issues. You've heard me say that Cassie has THE BEST online scrappy store out there, and even better delivery, fast and always wrapped in the most awesome houndstooth paper with a gorgeous red seam binding ribbon.  It's seriously like receiving two gifts in one.  I was thrilled when she extended the offer to me, and as of Jan 1 I am officially a PI girl.  My shiny new badge, thanks to Jen Chesnick is in my sidebar.  Use it every time you order from Paper Issues and instantly receive 20% off.   Here is a peek at my very first DT order.  I can't wait to dig in.
I am so anxious to work with the new Fancy Pants Be Loved Collection.  And how cute are those October Afternoon Daily Flash Pop Drops?  Cassie has several different color combinations in store. I've been wanting those Alison Kreft start and speech bubble paper clips for so long, that I'm almost afraid to use them now, they're almost vintage (now that CHA winter 2014 is just around the corner, haha.  Also is stock is the brand new Crate Paper Valentine's Day Collection, if that's more your speed.
This weekend also marked the first of the Monthly Swag Bag by Paper Issues.  Here is a peek at this month's kit.

There will be a new Swag Bag every month.  Signing up with ensure you don't miss out on yours.  A little bit of this and a little bit of that.  Scrappy goodness to add to your pages every month.  You can get yours here.  There are only a few left for January, so I wouldn't think about it too long if I were you.  Remember if you place an order, Swag Bags included, you can score 20% off just be using my code.
