Cousins

Happy Sunday friends!

Welcome to another Creative Scrappers reveal.   I used this opportunity to scrap a photo I took at Thanksgiving of the older cousins.  I can still remember when each of them were born, when they all use to call Isabelle, Baby Belle, when they would come to visit, and Ahria would ask me to paint her "pingers and toes".
How time flies.  Now 2 of them have graduated, one of them is a master woodworker (well in my opinion anyway), and my Baby Belle is heading to High School next year.

I used the Scraptastic December kit filled with the most luscious colours, and a flair button from {Aflairforbuttons} Etsy shop.

I stayed pretty true to Jenny's awesome sketch, just added a few layered bits and pieces to the edges.

Please hop over to the Creative Scrappers blog to see the rest of the DT takes on the sketch, and link up your own for a chance at a prize from Chic Tags this month.  You have until March 31 to work with either sketches #263 or 264.  You can enter as many times as you'd like using one or both of these sketches, as long as they are new creations for the challenge.  Link up, and you just never know, you may find your work our featured layout next Wednesday on the Creative Scrappers Blog. Together

Happy Saturday friends,
Sherri here, with some everyday inspiration for you.  I love 'around the house, everyday moments' types of pages.  They are probably what make up the majority of my scrapbook.  They are, afterall the majority of what life is all about in between the big events like birthdays, anniversaries, recitals and such.

So when my daughter grabbed my phone from me while we were just laying together sharing some downtime one day last week and snapped this photo, I knew it would make it's way into my albums.
I used the March It's My Life kit Add On from Scraptastic for this one.

The Home2 Flair set was perfect for this layout.  I've been saving it for just such a layout as this.
I typed up my journaling on an elle's studio tag and tucked it behind my photo.
The title was cut with my Silhouette Cameo.
The March Scraptastic It's My Life Add On kit can be purchased here.  There are so many elle's studio tags in the kit, it was hard to even make a dent in them, despite having so many on my page.  Good bang for your buck I'd say.

As for the flair, Shelley has so many flair sets that would be perfect for documenting the everyday including this brand new Chalkboard Day In My Life set.

Have a wonderful weekend friends, now go and make some 'everyday moment' kinda memories.

How I Love Them

This month's Feel Again kit and Add on Kit had so many bits and pieces in it that I wanted to come up with a way to use as many of them as possible on a layout.  I came up with a challenge for myself: to use only embellishment pieces to create my layout, no cardstock or patterned paper (other than my background).  Here is what I came up with.

As you can tell I failed on the "no patterned paper" thing.  I used a mask and some gesso to create the background on which to build my layout.  I then layered several pieces from the Fancy Pants ephemera pack, the Crate Paper clear tags pack, a couple of Fancy Pants tickets, some My Mind's Eye puffy stickers, and a few Echo Park cardstock stickers.

I was also itching to try out the Tim Holtz Distress paint and found a way to incorporate it here too, the bonus was that it doubled as adhesive for the wood veneer pieces.

In order to add a little more definition to the acetate heart I used my sewing machine to stitch it to the layout.  Once I finished adding all the pieces I wanted to the layout, it somehow seemed unfinished.  After leaving it for a bit I realized that it need just a little more colour and definition, hence the addition of just a touch of patterned paper on the edges.  So I didn't fully complete my challenge, but I did manage to use up several happy little pieces.
This second layout is a photo of my hubby that he had to have taken for his job.  They wanted a headshot to put on their website, and to use for their PR Press Release introducing him, and outlining his new role for the company.  I thought it would be fun to scrap the photo, as I'm sure one day we'll look back at it, and talk about how young and professional he looked (snicker).

Because it's a masculine layout, and one in which I really wanted to keep the focus on the pic (and less on the awesome scrappy product), I kept the embellishments to a minimum.

I used my Silhouette to create a cut file to use as a background, as well as my title, I then added a little flair to the edges by hand stitching. (the paper clip heart and chalkboard flair are from my stash)

This Elle's Studio cards worked nicely to record my journaling, and hide behind the photo. Hiding the journaling helps to still record the story, while keeping the layout clean.  Two different layouts, two different approaches.

Winter Love - Creative Scrappers Reveal

March 2nd, how did that happen?  It seems we've been buried under the cold hard spell of winter for so long here that we didn't even notice February fly right by.  How I wish Spring was just around the corner, but alas we still have several hundred feet of snow (well okay maybe not several hundred, but we have A LOT, let's just leave it at that), and super cold, as in hovering around forty below temperatures here to contend with for the next several weeks.  Cue: Annie's "The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow" here.

In other news, it's a new month, which not only means a new sketch, but a new sponsor for Creative Scrappers.  Here is my take on the sketch.

This was my first time using this size and this format photo.  It took me a bit to figure out how exactly I wanted to use the sketch.  I knew this was the photo I wanted to use, but was struggling with the design, until I flipped it.  Once I put all the strips on the top everything felt better to me, and I was better able to add embellishments.  I used scraps of October Afternoon papers, and one piece of My Mind's Eye paper, along with some {aflairforbuttons} flair and a Silhouette store cut file to create my title.

These goofy girls make scrapping fun.  This photo was from Superbowl Sunday.  The weather was milder than it had been in a long time, perfect for playing outside.  The snow is piled up so high it reaches the top of our six foot fence.

The girls were having so much fun taking turns sliding down it.  That is until they got the idea to scooch themselves along the top of the fence, all the way along to the street side of the house where they then, monkeyed themselves down and along the iron fence.
How perfect is the Hashtag Winter Flair set for this layout?  The cut file was created using a black sketch pen (my new love - watch for a tutorial to come)

I used my EK Success Label maker to create my journaling strips.

Another fun piece of flair from the Hashtag Winter set.

Here is Kristine's sketch
I thought it would be kind of neat to mix some ribbon strips in with my paper strips.  Love the texture that it ended up adding to the layout.

You can see the rest of the amazing layouts on the Creative Scrappers blog.  Our sponsor this month is one that's very near and dear to my heart... Chic Tags will be offering up a $35 prize pack to the lucky winner.  So what are you waiting for?  Get to work on this sketch this week, and check back to the CS blog next week for sketch #264, and link up then too.  And don't forget to check back throughout the week, you just never know if your work will be our feature.

Thanks for stopping by today friends, enjoy your day!

Paper Issues Made With Love

Have you heard of the Paper Issues Swag bags?  They are great little bags filled with the the best and cutest embellishments you could want for your pages and projects.  I used it to create the sweet layout of my mother-in-law and Eden baking treats in Eden's very first Easy Bake oven.
Journaling read: Happy to have captured this moment of Mom & Eden 'baking' together.  Long live the Easy Bake oven."
How cute is that wood veneer envelope?  There were 2 in the kit.  And I love that 3x4 card that Cassie cut from translucent patterned paper.  Everything here came in the Swag Bag.
I used my October Afternoon phrase stamp on the little tag.
So many great bits and pieces right?!  Just the title wasn't part of the kit.

The March Swag Bag is another one filled with great pieces.  Only $9.99 USD, there are only a few left, you can get your hands on one here.  If you'd like to sub to the Swag Bag kit, simply contact Cassie at her Paper Issues email, and ask to be put on the list.  She'll reserve one for you every month.  Use code:SHERRI to save 20% off your entire order.

And don't forget about our current issue, you have just a few more days to link up to our Colour By Numbers theme for your chance at a $20 gift certificate to the Paper Issues store.   If you join up with our Chic Tags 'Green' challenge you would get a two for one link up opportunity (wink, wink).

Thanks so much for popping in today friends.  Hope your week is off to a great start!

Chic Tags Monthy Challenge

Happy Sunday friends,

It's time for a new monthly challenge at Chic Tags.  This month we are challenging you to "Go Green".  I loved this one, as it was so wide open for interpretation.  You could upcycle something for your project, go all out using the actual colour, or in my case simply use the word in your title, among many other interpretations I'm sure.
This photos was taken in Saskatoon last November when we took Théa to a Dance Convention she won a registration for.  The instructors were amazing, and she was pushed pretty hard; loving almost every minute of it (the Lyrical section was a little beyond her ability).  One of the instructors that weekend, just happened to be my Dance crush from So You Think You Can Dance, none other than the super talented passionately serious about the Jazz Funk genre, sweetly funny, and easy on the eyes: Mr Sean Cheesman.  At the end of the competition all the instructors lineup, and have a seat with a Sharpie to sign autographs for the students.  I was seriously jealous that Théa got to have her photo taken with him (and the sweet, and equally as talented Tap Dancer Lisa Latouche), and I didn't.
These mini icons are my favourite pieces of the last CHA collection.  I almost always use 3D foam to raise them off the page a bit.
Love these little Happy Place phrases.  Did you know that the Love Notes collection has some almost identical tags that are currently on clearance for only $1.40 USD per package.  There are in fact, A LOT of awesome tags on clearance.  Some as low as $1 USD.  Hop over here to check them out. (the flair I've used is one of Shelley's fab creations at {aflairforbuttons}.
I will forever treasure this tweet that Mr. Cheesman himself replied to promising that 'next time' I'll get to be the one in the photo with him.  I used two mini icons glued back to back to allow me to retrieve the tweet photo from the pocket behind the main photo.

This challenge presented the perfect opportunity for me to scrap this photo.  Have you got your wheels churning yet?  If you'd like a few more examples of how the DT interpreted the challenge hop over to the Chic Tags blog post.  I would love to see you link up your own version for a chance at Chic Tags grab bag.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend friends! Pin It

A Gold Medal Day & A Challenge

Happy Friday friends!

We made it through another week, and welcome in the weekend.  The last few days of the Olympics.  I always find it bittersweet when they come to an end.  Happy b/c I don't feel like I'm always missing out on something when I can't be home with the tv on.  Yet happy to get back to real life again (you know all the cleaning, and cooking that didn't really happen for the previous 14 days?!).  Yesterday was an amazing day for Canada in Sochi for Canadians.  First Jennifer Jones and her crew won us a Gold Medal in curling.  The will go down in history as the first Canadian team to undefeated all the way to gold.  Second was the Women's Hockey gold medal win.  It was a game that many (myself included) will say they didn't deserve to win, especially if you're just taking into account the first two periods.  They just didn't seem to play with as much fire in their belly as the US Women were, and their shots were being blocked left right and centre, by both the goalie, and the amazing defence players.  But....they tied it up laaaaate in the 3rd, and found a way to win in overtime.  It was unbelievable.  So happy the hubs and I were both home to watch it together.  Here are our proud Women.

This photo still makes my eyes tear up a little.  It was definitely an emotional win for us, and an even more emotional loss for the US women.  As happy as I am for our girls, my heart still aches for the US team who will likely, be replaying this loss for many months to come.  Anyone else a little crazy about the Olympics?

I posted a challenge over at Scraptastic last week, and thought I would share it with you here too. I showed you just a sneak of the layout I created in my Valentine's post.  Here is the entire project.
Created with the January Breath again kit.
The Add-On stamp set had so many great stamps, I tried to incorporate as many as I could.  Including using one stamped on the kraft tag insert.  I just love the way the white looks on the kraft cardstock.
The challenge is to use hearts on a project this month.  You have until March 5th and 11:59pm EST to link up to this challenge, and you are NOT required to use the kit to play along.  The prize is a $20 gift certificate to the store.  You can link your entry up here.  I would love to see some of you play along.

Thanks for stopping by today friends.  Have a wonderful weekend!
