LCTS Reveal

Let's Capture These Sketches sketch #151 boasts patterns, blocks, and flourishes.  Here is what Kimberly created for us to play with this week.
For whatever reason, this gorgeous sketch was giving me a hard time.  I just couldn't seem  to get it to translate onto paper the way the sketch intended.  Has that ever happened to you?  I began by flipping the sketch to suit the photos that I wanted to scrap.  I think perhaps that's where my dissatisfaction came.  I was stuck on what photos I wanted to scrap, and couldn't quite make them work as well with the sketch as I would have liked.  But, still I forged ahead, and came out with a layout that to document the moment in a way that is fun, and playful, and has my fingerprints all over it.
Simple Stories 100 Days of Summer collection
Can you see the sketch in there?  It's flipped on it's side, and mirror imaged.  I encourage you to hop over to the Let's Capture These Sketches blog to see what the rest of the DT created, there are some really great takes to be seen.

And don't  forget about the blog up happening this weekend over at Scrapping Everyday Miracles.  You have the remainder of the weekend to get it on the fun, and qualify for some great prizes.  You can see what I have up for grabs here.  Have fun, and happy hopping.  You can see my layout and rak here.

Be blessed this weekend!

A New Chapter Blog Hop

 Happy Friday friends,

I'm thrilled to welcome you to Scrapping Everyday Miracle's blog hop.  It's been wonderful welcoming a few more talented ladies to our team.  Sad to see some of my friends leave, but that's the great thing about the world wide web, no one is ever too far away.  I wish our departing friends all the very best as they go on to begin a new chapter in their own lives.

A New Chapter.  That's the theme for this hop.  We are inviting you to create a project that captures the essence of the new chapter you are currently in.

My new chapter is that I've joined a woman's bible study once again.  It's been several years, and although I have some great resources for my own quiet times here at home with a great cup of coffee, my journal, and my sharpie pen.  There is something really special about gathering around a table with other women, from other walks of life, with other stories to share.  Last week was the first week.  I went thinking I would only know one or two women, but ended up running into quite a few other women from various past chapters of my life.  I also met some really wonderful woman right at my own table.  They were warm, unassuming, welcoming, and ready to dive in and be real with one another about what God is calling them to in their lives (or not knowing exactly what it is that God may be calling them to at this point in their lives).  I had a wonderful time, and am really looking forward to the Beth Moore study on James.  I've heard such great  things about her studies.  I've seen dvd studies by her, and listened to several You Tube, and Pod casts by her.  She's so charismatic, passionate, and full of conviction for her desire to teach others about the lessons she's learned along the way through various chapters of her life.
Using My Scrapbook Nook August kit featuring Carta Bella
The verse printed on the tag in the little pocket is Isaiah 43:19  "See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?  I am making a way in the desert, and streams in the wasteland."  It's kind of our theme verse for this hop.

SEM always has a twist, and this month it's to use to book pages on your project.  Now, I have to be honest, I totally forgot about it.  I had it out, and everything...I just simply forgot to add it.  On the upside, however I have two actual books in my photo, ha ha.  I'm hoping that will cover me.

And what's a blog hop without a few raks (Random Acts of (scrapbooking) Kindness).  Here is what I have up for grabs for one lucky reader.
I'm a big fan of bits and pieces, and so that's what I'm offering up to you, I'll even throw in a package of Chic Tags (my new fave embellishment), and an Evalicious badge or two.  To be eligible, I'd love it if you would become a follower of my blog (if you haven't already), and leave me a comment letting me know you're interested in this bundle of goodies.  That's it.  Easy peasy right?  This give away is open to everyone, as I am willing to ship internationally.  I will leave it open until Monday, 11:59 pm October 1st, and use Random Generator dot com to select a winner, and post on Saturday  October 6th.

Now, I hope you're in a hopping kind of mood.  I have your hopping orders right here.  If you haven't started there, I suggest you go back to the Scrapping Everyday Miracles blog, and start there.  The rest of the order will be as follows.

Basically Bare Mini

A quick share of a mini I made for Let's Capture Our Memories recently.

I created a mini album of our Summer.  I love the look of the 'naked' album.  I find it super easy to work with.  Where some may feel the need to cover the entire thing up with patterned paper, I actually like the look of the chipboard under my photos.  Here's my cover.  I used an old Pink Paislee Mask and some white Mr.Huey's, to create a little bit of pizazz to it.  I felt the cover needed just a little something more without adding a bunch of patterned paper.
Rather than go into detail about every page, I'll simply let them speak for themselves.  If you saw my Amy Tangerine mini, you'll remember that I love to add bits and pieces to my albums, mixing and matching different manufactures.  I used the Echo Park Happy Days collection as my base, and added just a few little bits from my stash.  For the most part all my embellishments are made of paper and/or stickers from the collection.
I combined a few photos using a brad for easy viewing under the "flip" sticker
The album comes with five chipboard inserts for the pockets.  It quickly became apparent, however that I needed a little more for this project.  No problem.  The pockets were wide enough to simply make a few more inserts out of scrap pieces of cardboard (from cereal boxes, etc) and simply add them in.  Here is an example of just that.  Both these pages fit in the same "Aug Long" pocket.
Front view
Rear view of same inserts
Here's another set of two.
Front view
Rear view of  same insert
Even after adding a few more inserts, I still had a handful of photos that I wanted to include in the album.  Solution: tape an envelope to the back page to hold  said photos.  Easy peasy.

You can see that even though I've added those extra pages, and the envelope, that the album is not terribly thick.  Still thin enough to be easily stored on my shelf with the others.

The beauty of these little albums is how quickly they make creating a fun little keepsake.  This album from start to finish took me about 3 hours.  Sometimes I can spend that on one layout, so that gives you some perspective.

The entire Echo Park - Happy Days collection and several different varieties of mini albums are all currently available in the LCOM shop.

Happy creating friends!

Let's Get Sketchy #30

It's Reveal Day!

Sketch #30 over at Let's Get Sketchy had my name all over it.
Loved the design that allowed for several small photos.  These ones of Eden getting her hair cut in June were perfect for it.

I used a paper collection, I've been hoarding for over a year.  Remember the 100 Days of Summer collection by Simple Stories?  I think it may have been their first ever collection.  I adored that line.  So much so, that I never used it.  Do you ever do that?  I created one double page layout with it, and that was that.  I loved it so much I was afraid of creating something sub-standard with it.  How ridiculous is that anyway?  Better to have photos mixed in with it, and include it in my albums where it will get views, rather than sitting on my shelf  in it's nice shiny package getting no face time.

Here's my take on this week's sketch.

Of course I needed to add a few more bits and pieces to make the sketch reflect my personal style.  And, this was my first attempt at using Gesso.  Unfortunately it's a trial an error kind of thing, and I'm not a huge fan of the huge white blotch on the bottom left of the photos, and I would have preferred just a little more to the top left of the photos, but overall I'm pretty pleased with it.

If you feel inspired to play, and want a chance at the $20 Gift Certificate to Scarptastic Kit Club this month.  Create a layout based on this sketch and link it up here.  This is also where you should go to get further inspiration, from the rest of the kind, and talented design team.

Happy scrapping friends,

My Scrapbook Nook is closing

I still can't believe it really.

For as long as I've been scrapping, The Nook has been there.

The forum was always alive with action, and chatter, no matter what time it was.  It was just that kind of place, home to many, many women all over the globe.

For those of you who don't get my passion with scrapping, you likely won't understand my kinship with women whom I've never met.  Just trust me when I say I have girlfriends all over the world.  Women with whom, I've laughed, and cried, been challenged by and just simply enjoyed being with thanks to the Internet, and My Scrapbook Nook.  Pam, the owner, and Leah the Design Team manager created a wonderful home for scrappers everywhere.  It makes my heart heavy to know this place will no longer be around.  My eyes are stinking with tears that threaten to spill over even now as I type.  The Nook was a rare gem in this field.  A treasure, I called home, and it will be missed.

You can read my tribute here on the Nook Blog, and see a few of my Nook Kit Club layouts.

My Mind's Eye Altered Canvas

Would you believe I've had this canvas to share with you since June?

I have a girlfriend named Tish, who I met through The Scrapbook Cottage where I work.  She is an artist.  A very talented one too.  She makes the most vibrant, and beautiful art journals.  She knows how to rock Gesso, and paint, and black pens, like no one else I know.  Tish graciously took some time out of her schedule to share a little bit of her knowledge with me.

I wanted to create a canvas.  I had never done one before, but read a scripture verse that I really wanted to hang somewhere.  Shortly after finding the verse, I received a card kit in the mail, that I blogged about here.  In the kit was this fabulous wood veneer bird.  I knew I wanted that bird on a canvas.  Then along came a Scrapbook Nook kit full of the newest My Mind's Eye Indie Chic Collection.  Suddenly I had all the primary ingredients, now all I needed was the teacher.  That's where she comes in.
Why the short girl is taking the photo I'm not sure :)
I drove out to Tish's place in the country, and spent a wonderful afternoon learning from her.  Here is the vision she helped me to get on canvas.
I used a few different patterned papers, some gesso, a little paint, Studio Calico butterflies some stamps, and little trim, painted that gorgeous bird, and printed, and distressed the verse, and voila a beautiful canvas was born.

It now sits in my living room.  Thank you Tish for helping me to make my vision a reality.  I have a feeling, this won't be the only canvas I create.

Lily Bee In Under Sixty

It seems the more packed my schedule gets the more I feel the need to create.  It's like I need to break out of the confines of my schedule and get creative with paper and glue.  That's exactly what happened yesterday morning when I whipped this layout together in just over half an hour before leaving the house for a meeting.

I knew I was short on time.  I knew exactly which photo I wanted to scrap. And I knew I had some scraps left of a gorgeous collection that wold match said photo perfectly.  A little snip, snip, layering, punching, and stitching, and voila a sweet layout to capture a moment from our last day of school last June.

Lily Bee Design - Head Over Heels collection
There, now it's out of my system.  Back to the grind today.  I hope this finds you all enjoying a wonderful week.

Don't forget about these on-going challenges.  I'd love if you'd come join me.

SEM September Sketch Challenge

Scrapping Everyday Miracles September Sketch Challenge

Here is what you will be working with this month.  Isn't it great?  So glad Shimelle was kind enough to allow us to use it this sketch, it was fun to work with.
her blog
The Scrap Twist this month is to use a mixed alpha title.  Here is my layout.
I loved this quote I found online, and pinned it for use at a later date.  That day was when I printed out this photo of my then, new cute black flats.  A short...very short actually woman in flats...I know...counteractive...but I love 'em.  I don't spend a lot of money on shoes, rather I prefer to wait for sales, so I can have more at the same price.

Here is a close up shot of the journaling.

Have you been enticed to play along?  I hope so.  Participating in this sketch will earn you the chance at a fabulous card kit being offered up by our generous sponsor this moth The Card Kitchen.
May Kit - prize may not be as shown
You still have plenty of time to link up with Challenge #20 this month also.  Doing so will earn you a second chance into the drawing for our sponsored prize.

Remember all layouts must be linked up to the Scrapping Everyday Miracles blog by Sunday September 30, 2012 no later than 11:59 PST.  Make sure to link directly to your post, and not just your blog, and don't forget about the scrap twist.

Happy creating.  And thanks so much for stopping by today!

Let's Capture These Sketches Reveal

Sketch #149 in now live on Let's Capture These Sketches

Here is Natalie's sketch

Check out all the white space and the cluster.  So up my ally.  The flowers kind of threw me for a loop at first because I don't actually own many flowers anymore, and definitely none that large.  I decided to just look at it as a cluster rather than 3 flowers.  Then things came together very quickly.

I realize it's hard to see the outline.  Consider this  caption centered on the bottom, and that should make things a little easier to see.

Once again I combined a mix of manufactures on this page including: Jillibean Soup, My Mind's Eye, Prima, Evalicious, October Afternoon, Jenni Bowlin, and Studio Calico.
These photos are of Théa, and Eden are from the day my girlfriend gave us a mini tour of the local radio station she works at.  The girls met their favorite DJ, and were introduced to a bunch of the staff.  Two sweet guys in particular totally made their day by suiting them up in a cowbow hat, and lanyard.  Such a small gesture of kindness totally made their day.

A simple, yet eye catching design.  Works for me.  You should see what the rest of the design team created. Curious?  Click  here.

Have a wonderful weekend friends!

Beautiful Moments

I received the August Scrapbook Nook kit ages ago, and finally had a chance to play with it.  I wanted to make something that I could start and finish quickly, as I only had a couple of hours.  Needless to say I resorted to the style I began scrapping with.  The basic straight lines, with layers and a few stickers.  Simple, but worked great for me with this photo of Théa, and her two little Dance buddies.
Using Carta Bella Beautiful Moments collection
This was taken shortly before they performed at the Canadian National Dance Competition this past May.  Those little outfits were so stinkin' cute, and the three of them looked just gorgeous up there on the stage.  It's amazing to see how far they've come in the mere 5 years they've been dancing.  They're only 10, I can't even begin to imagine what they'll be doing when they're 13 and 15 years old.  KickIt Dance Studio has been such a huge, huge blessing in our lives, I can barely put it into words.  The directors are two of the kindest, most encouraging, dedicated people I know.  Not to mention the high level of talent they share with their students.  They run a fabulous Dance Camp every year, and bring in the strongest and best teachers in each field to teach classes during the Intensive week.  They treat the kids with respect, and challenge them to bring their best all the time.  In turn the kids treat each other in the same regard.  It is especially noticeable as you observe the older dancers (13-17), interact with the younger ones.  We are so happy we've found a home here.

There is a hidden journal tag on this layout.  The half scalloped journal spot pulls out to reveal the following journaling: "These 3 are so fortunate to have found each other as dance mates at KickIt. They push each other, and genuinely love each other.  Competition is even more fun as they dance as friends.  May 2012"

I'm up over at Let's Capture Our Memories today with a little tutorial on how I created the hidden pocket if you'd like to have a peek.  The LCOM store also has the Carta Bella paper line in stock and ready to ship.  You can check it out here.

Thanks for stopping by today friends.  Hope you're in the middle of a great weekend.

I'm Julie's Guest

Welcome to something NEW today.

A few weeks ago my bloggy friend, Julie asked me if I would consider guesting on her blog for a series she's doing this month called I Spy Jesus. The series will run every Wednesday for the duration of September, and by the sounds of it there are some great women contributing, I am honoured to have been asked to join them.

Julie is a woman who is full of faith, and hope, and writes with such humility.  Her love for Jesus permeates almost every post, weather she's talking about the dress she wore for her wedding, her children, and the challenges of homeschooling, or her scrapping passion.  You can read her first post in the series here, it will help you get to know her a little better.  I have no doubt you'll be touched by how she shares her heart, just as I have been.

This post was not an easy one to write as you'll discover if you pop over to Julie's blog to read it in it's entirety.  To give you a bit of a clue, however, let me just say that as much as I know there are seasons in our lives where we feel God presence more than others, it always leaves me feeling like a failure whenever I find myself in a dry season.  So being asked to share where I see Jesus working in my life, when I feel like I'm simply on the hamster wheel of life, not really making a whole lot of difference in the world around me is extremely humbling.  But God is always pursuing us, illuminating the path in which we should travel, calling us to something new, and that's what I want to share with you over at Julie's.  I hope you'll pop by and have a peek.  For further enticement here is a sneak of the layout I created for this post.

You can see the rest of the post, including the layout on Julie's blog.

I hope you'll pop over and say hello.

Happy Tuesday friends,

Let's Get Sketchy Reveal

Loved this sketch by Janessa Franco over at Let's Get Sketchy

It's the Challenge #28, and my first reveal as part of the DT, very exciting.

Here is my take on it.
As soon as I saw the circles, I knew I wanted to  switch them up to hexagons, just so I had a great excuse to use my 'new to me' hexagon punch.

I also wanted to add journaling, and the photos alone didn't really tell the story.  The sketch, in my eyes, however didn't really accommodate exposed journaling. To remedy the problem, I created a hidden pocket to slide the Chic Tags journal card into.  Smart right?!  I'll be showing you how to make your own pockets, easy, peasy next week.

This page is the result of a lot of mixing and matching different product/manufacturers (one of my fave things about working with sketches) from Echo Park, and Studio Calico, to Chic tags, Prima, and October Afternoon.

The rest of the DT had some really great takes on this sketch also.  Please pop over here to check them out, get more info on this month's gracious sponsor Scraptastic Kit Club (Jessica is graciously offering up a $20 gift certificate to her store), and link up your own creations.

Thanks for stopping in today friends, and a Happy Monday to each of you!

Sunday Fun

Feels like I blinked and the weekend was half over.  There has been a whirlwind of activity at our place since Friday afternoon.  Fun stuff.

Before I get into all that though I want to share with you TWO fabulous opportunities that Lily Bee Design is hosting.  First is this.  That's right they are having a DT call.  I don't know the last time they did that, they have been known to simply invite designers on.  Can you imagine getting that email?  I am crossing my fingers that I do get a similar email as I am going to submit an appy to them.  You've heard it from me before...they are one of my favorite manufacturers to work with, and I only say that about two, out of the bunch.  I love how they stay current in the market, and continually offer quality product for us to work with.  The journal cards, stickers, those fabulous tiny alphas, and the eye catching designs of their papers are always a must on my list of scrappy purchases.  I would be thrilled to have the opportunity to work with their current team, (some of them my scrappy friends on the web).  I just know I could rock their scrappy goodness.

Second is this.  A chance to win an entire new release collection.  Check out these fabulous new lines.
Love these luxurious earthy tones

This one is my fave, check out that hexi paper
Planning to create a layout class with this one for my LSS
Now believe you me, as much as I want to share all this exciting news, part of me is wishing I'd just keep it to myself, so I wouldn't be diminishing my own chances of winning, or being selected for their team.  I however, can not keep great news like this to myself, so go on and share/like/tweet, and apply as your little heart desires.  I can live with that.

As for the rest of this weekend...
Théa and her good dance partner in crime, spent several hours at their first rehearsal for the upcoming American Girl movie, that is being filmed her in Winnipeg.  It's all been a serious roller coaster ride, as we were called Friday at 4pm, asking to bring her in for an audition, told at 5:20 that she was perfect for the part.  Back there on Saturday evening for this dance workshop/rehearsal.  Then told at 8pm, that there may be cuts on Sunday (today).  See what I mean?  Rollercoaster.  She's a little nervous.  This mamma, is a little more.  But most of all, I'm just so proud of her for going for it.  I have a lot to learn from this wonderful 10 year old of mine.

While she was there with Daddy.  The rest of us girls celebrated this guy's belated 4th birthday, with bowling, followed by ice cream at Dairy Queen.
Recognize him?  He's the little man I scrapped about here.
He is such a character.  We had a blast bowling (I think the rest of the bowling ally could tell too, hee hee).  In between every ball thrown he'd break out into a freestyle Hip Hop routine.  Needless to say we needed more than the 60 minutes we paid for to finish 10 frames.  My heart aches with love, and pride overflowing for this little guy.

Today at noon I will be planted in front of my tv.  Wearing this.

Cheering for these guys, and the rest of the team.
It's part II of the Labour Day Classic, and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers are hungry for revenge.  It's gonna be pretty loud in here, feel free to come and cheer with me.

Whatever your plans are today, I hope you are happy, healthy, and spending it with the people you love most.

Thanks for popping by today!

Welcome Back

Welcome to the weekend!

If you're anything like me you are feeling just a little more tired than you have been for the past two months.  The start of the new school year always seems to arrive too quickly, and feels like a whirlwind of activity, with countless forms to be filled out and returned, and a the usual school newsletters, and other pertinent information to be reviewed.

For the past few years I have been making cards to send along with the girls on the first day of school.  My hope is that a simple card will help their new teacher to feel valued and appreciated as he/she takes on a new set of students for the next 10 months of the year.

This year I created super simple "Welcome Back" cards using Lily Bee Design Double Dutch collection, and my hexagon punches.
Rather than my usual habit of creating one-of-a-kind cards, this year, I decided to stick to the same design on all 4 cards changing it up just a bit between the two colours.
Simple, yet cheerful.
Some of the items are from my stash, like the white trim, and office supply tags, but the rest can be found in the Let's Capture Our Memories store.

Speaking of the store.  You may want to pop over and check out all the new Echo Park collections in there.
have all been added and are ready for purchase.

Enjoy your Saturday friends, and happy creating!

Let's Hear It For The Boy

For Challenge #20, Einat has brought us a new kind of challenge this month at Scrapping Everyday Miracles.  The challenge is to focus on a special male in our life.  She reminds us about the covenant that God made with Abraham the day a lamb was sent to be sacrificed in place of Abraham's son Issac.

When I read her challenge I immediately thought of my nephew Jayden.  My brother and his wife have the cutest brown boy I've ever seen.  The kid is such a character.  He loves to tease, and play around, and climb all over my hubby.  He's quite the dancer, loves anything Spiderman, and is a little jokester to boot.  He's one of the most loving little boys I know.  When he leaves his day care, he cannot walk out the door without personally saying goodbye and delivering a hug to each child there.

Then men in my family have not done much to leave a stellar legacy for future generations.  Ephesians 6:4 reads "Fathers, don't exasperate your children by coming down hard on them. Take them by the hand and lead them in the way of the Master."  Whether it was because they, themselves have always had poor role models, or because they just had no idea how and where to start, or simply because they just didn't care, I do not know.  All I know is that Ephesians 6:4 did not ring true within the walls of my home.  My brother and I were subjected to awful rants by my father, often accompanied by a swift and rough hand to the behind.

It is only by the grace of God, and the leading of the Holy Spirit, that my brother and I are the people we are today.  My brother especially.  He grew into a kind, loving, gentle man, who leads his son with a kind, loving, and gentle hand.  He is raising Jayden in a way that affirms this little boy's value in Christ.  Jayden will have a hard time questioning his worth as a person, a chosen, and wonderfully created child of God, gifted to his parents.  With that kind of knowledge this young man will have the power to break this generational curse of ours.  He will have the strength and the wisdom, and the humility to rise up and re-write the pages of the Wesley book for future generations.
Written on this hidden journaling card is Malachi 4:6 "He (Elijah) will convince parents to look after their children and children to look up to their parents."
I am honoured to be his Aunt.  I cherish the gift that I have, to come alongside him, and his parents as a reminder of what a gift he is to all of us, and of God's great and amazing, all encompassing, never failing love for all mankind.  A love that He demonstrated so boldly in giving up His son Jesus to die for each one of us.  Rather than a life doomed to eternal loss, we have been giving the opportunity to live in eternity with our Heavenly Father.  There is no denying the presence of God for me.  No denying the power of the Holy Spirit when I look at myself in the mirror, or when I look at my brother, and especially when I consider the possibility of restoration that Jayden could bring to the Wesley name for future generations.

To see what men the rest of the DT chose to lift up please pop over to Scrapping Everyday Miracles.  There, you will also see the scrap twist for the month, as well as get the details on our gracious sponsor and the prize up for grabs.

Have a wonderful Monday friends,

♥ S.
